I think she's beautiful the way she is. If I entered her in dog shows would they deduct for natural ears?
1more thing, her name.
It was Tess then Jenna then Dixie then Daisy
Finally I came up with Cadence Catalina. Both have special meaning for me. But my daughter says it's too complicated. What do you think?

I meant local shows I don't do puppy mills & we don't even have dog/cat stores here. I got her from a reputable breeder but not for her pedigree.
I'm also so tired of backyard breeder bashing. "100 dogs on mounds of feces, selfish, dirty, uncaring, idiots who breed every 6 months til the dog drops dead, never go to the vet for testing, checkups, shots, or illness" BS!! Some might, but not ALL are bad! Isn't it better that they are pets first?
akc breeders make dogs live on concrete slabs in fenced areas, not allowed to play with other dogs or humans, what a life! Also I NEVER said I'd breed her.
Get off akc soapbox!

I agree, the natural look is better. There are a lot of local dog shows where I live, it's not the eukanuba grand champ...but they're fun. I think the name is very pretty and for short your daughter could call her Cady (K-dee) I can't believe how hateful some are. You asked a simple question about a dog's name & "acceptance" is ready to have you tarred & feathered if you didn't pay $1000! What business is it of hers?? What a witch! I also know some so-called backyard breeders & I would put there dogs up against an akc inbred dog anyday!

Have you read the breed standard on the akc website? It says that the ears do not have to be cropped.
Where did you get the dog? If you got her from a pet store or a backyard breeder or a newspaper ad, and paid less than $1000 for her, she probably is only pet quality. Have you had the dog evaluated by a reputable show person? Someone who shows regularly and knows the standard? If s/he says that your dog is not close enough to the standard to have a shot in competition, then you should just get her fixed as soon as you can. It will help to prevent behavioural issues and health issues (like cancer). And, then you'll have no reason to cut your dog. : )

You don't need to crop ears to show your boxer in AKC show ring. There were 3 boxers in 2002 that finished as a champion with natural ears. It's also true that some judge will overlook your dog if she has natural ears. It will take amazing dog to be a champion with natural ears, but it is possible. This shouldn't be a issue if you are thinking about agility or obedience competition
I agree with you 100% that they are just beautiful with natural ears and tail.
About the name, you can register your dog with "Canence Catalina", and that will be the official name.when she win the championship, that will be the name she will be called. You just need nickname for your dog that you will use. I have to agree with your daughter on that.

You can show a Boxer with natural ears. Unless she is an outstanding specimine, you will not do as well, since many judges are older and like the cropped ear look. the same is true for tails. You will find it a hard road to travel!! And way more expensive too!!!!!!
The name is WAY too complicated for daily use. Simplify it and it can work. Use the longer version for the registered name.

The AKC rules allow for uncropped ears.
"If uncropped, the ears should be of moderate size, thin, lying flat and close to the cheeks in repose, but falling forward with a definite crease when alert."
It depends on what kind of show you enter, but many allow for the natural look in breeds that typical have been altered in the past, like Doberman.

It is not called docking when you're speaking of the ears, it is called cropping and no you do not have to crop the ears. Cropping ears is very painful for dogs and there is no guarantee after you have paid for the ears to be cropped that they will stand erect anyway. Points will NOT be deducted in a show for uncropped ears, it is simply referred to as "natural ears" when they are not cropped. I think your name for her is just fine. You could compromis with your daughter by keeping the name you have chosed, but calling the dog "Catie" for short :)

As far as how they would judge natural ears in a show, I don't know. But I do think they look better with natural ears. And if you like the name Cadence Catalina you should just stick with that. It makes no sense to change it to a name you don't like.

My family had 6 generations of Boxers, we never docked ears or cropped the tail. They look perfect just the way they are. Keep it natural.

It's ***CROPPED*** not "docked"!! TAILS are DOCKED,ears are CROPPED!
Yes,natural ears are in-correct for the conformation ring. But I wouldn't worry about that-you have a PET! It will NOT do well in the ring,no matter *what* you do.

if you are planning showing her then you will need to check out the rules and regulations but to show I beleive they do need to be cropped. It is a very painful procedure so if she is older than a few months a vet may not do it.
As for the name I think it is cute but if you are like most pet owners you will have a "pet name" for her anyway and shorten her real name so I think it will work
