It is obvious from the other answers here that the people here have babies that feel very secure and safe. Yours does, too. Hence, the happiness.
All babies are not happy. I am a foster parent as well as the mother of 4. All of my babies were incredibly happy and are still at 8, 7, 5 , and 3. I have had many foster children over the past 10 years live with us that were anything but happy. That sense of absolute love and security is the key ingredient in creating that happy baby. Yours has it!

Since Babies can't understand the back ground of the things happen , they are happy always unless they are hurt. For example , when some one is dead, he sees more people come and go, other kids also come and he makes lot of fun out of these things. On the other hand , during a vaccination session he might be frightned when he hears other babies crying. So what is the reason? The baby's happiness depends on the way he collects the actions / movements of others around him. In a nutshell , environment is crucial.

We have an 8 month old baby daughter, and she's a very happy baby. Always smiling at people. Giggling at simple interactions, specially when people are smiling at her. All our three kids have been happy babies, but we have come across some babies that aren't too "happy" or interactive. Babies can be as unique as any other people, I guess we've just been lucky!! Good luck and congratulations on your baby. : )
Btw, that's her on my avatar... : )

Some children are a bit more cautious in public, so they don't seem as happy. My older daughter was this way, and my younger daughter can be that way, too. They're very happy kids, but they often seem more serious in public because they're just taking in everything around them or because they're unsure of strangers. It's just their personalities.
There are also parents who take their kids out when they're hungry, tired, etc., so people see a lot of fussy, cranky kids in public. It's nice to see a content little one.

Most babies I know are very happy, I know I was when I was little! I had a blast when I was a baby. No worries no concerns! Ah, the life, lol. My baby cousin is generally happy but whenever his mom even leaves to go to the bathroom, he cries like crazy, because of one time he came to my house and she had to go to the supermarket so she wanted me and my mom to babysit him. He cried like crazy. He still does and he's almost 3!
Your baby sounds cute!

Kids about that age are usually very happy. They're learning. They have a lot to look at. Some kids, though, are quiet about it. They're happy, but not obviously so. So if your son if smiling, it's unique and cute.

i think people just like to go look at babies and they cant do so without talking to the parent so they say whatever is most obvious for my daughter it is usually the curls but in general at that age babies are pretty easy to keep happy
