Have self confidence. Don't pay heed to other's comments. Whether if you succed or fail you act on your own opinion. If you suceed by listening to other's opinion then that person would comment that you suceeded by listening to his/her advice, on the other hand if you fail you would feel that if you had acted on your own you would have suceeded. So always better be yourselves.

Work hard, be honest with YOURSELF and others, apply the Golden Rule (which is in all religions in one form or another), look after the small stuff and leave the big stuff for your HIGHER POWER. And don't measure your success in material things !
