That is a difference of 35 pounds, and therefore a realistic and safe amount of weight to lose in the time frame you mentioned. The sure fire non-gimmick way of weight loss, and the method that produces sustainable results, is the reduction of caloric intake with an increase in caloric expenditure.

I would recommend reducing your consumption of calories to between 1500 - 1800 calories a day, and walk, or if possible, jog, for an hour everyday. This should yield the weight loss results you want. You will probably be surprised that in the first two weeks or so you will drop close to 7 to 11 pounds, just because such a drastic change allows you to get rid of excess water retention. Think about it. Within the first two weeks you will have lost 20 to 28 percent of the weight you want to lose. Good luck!

That's a huge goal, as a guy I'm 170, and want to be 210 - but yeh anyway, you need to stop eating junk food most importantly, and I mean really stop eating junk food - you need to make sacrifices - check the fat content on all your food, and eat mostly lean meat, fruit, vegetables and whole grains. Diet alone won't help, you need to be exercising intensively and regularly - alot of cardio - like running, cycling and swimming - might want to add some weights to that.

Remember:

Starving yourself will not make you lose weight, it will slow down your metabolism and make your body think it is in a time of drought and so will actually start CONSERVING food and you'll stay overweight for a long time - and then you will also get ill. So don't rush things, and the most logical answer isn't always the one that works.

Weight Loss = Burn more calories through exercise than you eat in your food.

Hope that helps.

So, 35 lbs in 4 months, roughly 2 lbs a week, sounds like a do-able goal. Start moving more every day, even if just a 10 minute walk and work up from there. Take the stairs, park further away at the store, etc. Drink lots of water, even better Green Tea if you like it. I dropped weight just from drinking it and walking every evening. Do weight training, as muscle burns fat more effectively. Try doing a alternating fast / regular diet, with switching between low calorie days and regular days, this will rev up your metabolism without sending your body into survival mode and you won't feel deprived. Find someone to exercise and lose weight with, so you can keep each other on track.

I think that you should not focus so much on how much you weigh, but rather on how you feel and how healthy you believe yourself to be. I don't think you should put pressure on yourself to lose 35 pounds in 4 months. That type of weight loss takes time and a concerted effort.
Having said that, you would like to lose weight for whatever reason. You need to slowly make reductions in the amount of food you eat. My personal strategy for keeping thin is to eat larger amounts of calorie sparse foods. For example, you can select a hamburger and fries, or- for the same number of calories and MUCH LESS FAT you can eat two or three lean chicken breasts, a whole plate of steamed veggies and a big bowl of fruit salad for dessert. You should try to stay away from fast food.
I highly recommend the Weight Watchers program if you feel that you need to learn about healthy eating and would like some support. I haven't done this program myself, nor am I affiliated with it in any way, I just know of friends who have been highly successful at losing weight the healthy, gradual way, with this program.

You also need to exercise, not only to lose weight but also for its health benefits- physical and psychological. Exercise makes people feel good! You should start with slow walking, even if it's just for 5-10 minutes a day. Go around the block, head to the mall with a friend and do circles (without heading to the food court of course). See if you have a friend or family member who is up for the exercise as well- it's more fun in groups.
Good luck and please don't feel pressured to lose such a large amount of weight so quickly.

Good thing you are starting now, but 35 lbs. in 16 weeks is a lot. 1-2 lbs is normal after the first few weeks (you lose more at the start of a diet).
First, eat less, and exercise more. When I was training professionally, I ate 6 SMALL meals a day. Figure on 2 a days, with a walk at lunch (hey you're only having a yogurt and a banana at lunch, you got time to walk now). Saturdays were my heavy day, with me working out up to 10 hours. Then Sunday off. Take small steps, and if you fal off the horse, crawl back on. OR...Marine boot camp is about 12 weeks......

Stop eating and drinking any sugary foods/drinks. Limit starches to one reasonable serving a day (two slices of bread, a small serving of pasta if necessary although its best to eliminate pasta or a small portion of potato if necessary).

When it comes to fruits (which have their own sugar) feel free to eat them, although reduce the number of glass of fruit juice a day because they're high in calories (while, say, a tangerine or an apple). Eat whatever vegetables you want, but don't add butter or anything else that adds calories and fat. (Of course, 2000 calories' worth of vegetables a day won't help you lose weight, so when I say "whatever you want" use some good judgment.)

Make sure you get protein. Lean protein is best. Fish or chicken is best. You can get some protein from small amounts of eggs or cheese as well.

Keep breakfast light and in a small portion. Keep lunch lightest of all. If you get really, really hungry and have to have a snack have a few cheese crackers or Triscuits.

Add some exercise - walking, riding a bike, jumping rope, swimming, whatever you find is reasonably pleasant to do.

A couple of things to keep in mind:

For girls and women carbohydrates are the fastest way to gain weight and eating them is the best way to prevent losing weight.

People who eat/drink no sugary foods/drinks usually are slim.

Exercise a lot, eat a lot of high fiber foods, try to cut the fat out of your diet, portion control, make water the liquid you ingest. Soooo many calories come from soda, frappuchinos, sobes, energy drinks, don't do it! Reward yourself for every 5 pounds you lose by eating a favorite meal. Don't get discouraged, if you can't lose all that weight in that length of time, lose as much as you can.
