Correct! The first will be more correct.
We all are going to die, and we know that. so it couldn't be I am afraid to die, because we all are going to die. all of us.
but, the method of death is more to be afraid of than death itself. How are we going to die, that is the fear which it lies our query. Are we to die in our slumber sleep, in a blink of an eye, or to be tormented in our death ever so slowly until the last breath is no more with us, that is to be afraid of.

They are both fine. The two forms are:

I am afraid to + verb
I am afraid of + noun (or in this case a gerund)
