it just occurred few years back and its making me feel uncomfortable myself. i'm having a hard time dealing with it. i feel some twitching sometimes. normally, when we talk to people we should be looking straight in the eyes. and that's what i do.

In normal human interaction, eye to eye contact is usually not sustained, just a glance or sometimes for a few short seconds. If you are overanalyzing this aspect of your interactions, I suspect there may be an underlying mental or personality disorder contributing to the perception problems.

Most people become uncomfortable with long periods of eye contact. Generally, the listener will keep eye contact with the face of the speaker. The speaker will have eye contact much of the time, but will glance away at other things every once and awhile. If they aren't making eye contact much at all either way, then they are uncomfortable about something. They may be insecure for some reason.

A lot of people are incomfortable looking other people in the eye. Our modern culture is one of seperation. We communicate by phone, email, IM, etc. So we are not used to the personal communication of face to face contact. When we look someone in the eyes it's very personal and very honest. This can make people uncomfortable if they don't spend a lot of time in face to face communications. Even if we have a very strong and honest connection with someone online, there are different emotional connotations to eye contact.

People never look me in the ey. They sometimes go to extreme lengths to avoid eye contact with me. I have asked my friends why this is and most of them say because when they do make eye contact, the way I look at them make them feel like I am looking through them instead of at them. Are you brown eyed? Or dark eyed in general? My eyes are black and people have said that they look kind of forbiding....and cold. Weird I know......

Maybe they are uncomfortable around you, or you are looking at them in a certain way which makes them uncomfortable, and don't realize it.
