Who's Cordelia Chase, and who gives a squat about what that person says? I'd say tact is just a measured way to say something in a way that would be less offensive to someone. The Book of Proverbs talks about being tactful, but not using that word, often, so I can't see how being tactful violates the 10 Commandments. And who did you say that Cordelia person was?? Oh well, who cares. God Bless you.

Tact isn't lying. It's being considerate of other people's feelings. Tact means you don't say something rude. That isn't a lie, that's being kind. And who is Cordelia Chase?

You watch waaaaaaaaaaaaay too much TV. Cordelia Chase is not even a real person; she is a character on a fantasy TV show!

"Tact" is really just gentleness and proper timing when
speaking about sensitive subjects. It takes wisdom to be tactful, not dishonesty.

Hmmm, a fellow Buffy fan... I think that both are right, in the sense that you shouldn't lie, but you should be VERY careful about what you say to people, and more importantly HOW you say it. Of course, if I have to choose, knowing Cordelia, I would go with the 10 commandments. LOL!

Well, the 10Cs say "Do not bear false witness against your neighbor," which is an instance of lying. So in the spirit of things, lying is banned by the 10Cs. But there are other places in the Bible which speak more explicitly against lying.

I don't think with holding the truth from people for a good purpose is necessarily wrong. Even Jesus did it a few times. On the road to Emmaus, when he walked with those two guys, it says that when they got to the city gate, Jesus ACTED as if he were going further and was going to part company with them. But then they asked him to join them.

So he ALLOWED them to believe something that wasn't true, for his own good purpose. (It's at the end of the gospel of Luke). So was Jesus a "liar" there? I would think not. Ya gotta be smart sometimes.

Love, Jack.

The 10 commandments don't actually say don't lie, they say "don't bear false witness" with essentially means don't lie in court. Its not the same thing. Also tact doesn't have to be lying, it can be just wording how you say something to avoid offense. (For instance: "I don't think that dress suits you" is truthful and more tactful than saying "you look hideous in that").

Tact is being sensitive to what is proper and appropriate in dealing with others, including the ability to speak or act without offending.

Lying to people would be improper, inappropriate, offensive, and tactless.

With love in Christ.

Tact is a way of wisely and compassionately delivering the Truth. The Truth can hurt. "Lies kill" good character, integrity and trust. "Wounds from a Friend can be Trusted" Proverbs 27:6
