Paxil side effects

Side effects cannot be anticipated. If any develop or change in intensity, inform your doctor as soon as possible. Only your doctor can determine whether it is safe for you to continue taking this medication.

During the first 4 to 6 weeks, you may find some side effects less troublesome (nausea and dizziness, for example) than others (dry mouth, drowsiness, and weakness).

Side effects may include:
Abnormal ejaculation, abnormal orgasm, constipation, decreased appetite, decreased sex drive, diarrhea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, gas, impotence, male and female genital disorders, nausea, nervousness, sleeplessness, sweating, tremor, weakness, vertigo
(there is a lot larger of a list of side effects that the manufacturer is not required to publish. Remember Viox?)

Personally, I would much rather deal with the anxiety. It's safer and much more natural. Facing fear builds courage.

I'm not sure about Paxil, but most drugs of this type (Adderall has been "outlawed" in Canada) contain Methylphenidate which from what I understand can easily be converted into Meth-Amphetamine.

Yep, that sounds like Paxil... Be glad you aren't also experiencing screaming nightmares 3 or 4 times a night...

I'll freely admit that I have a bad attitude about Paxil. I had to take it for several months back when I was first diagnosed with fibromyalgia. My side effects were bad, and never faded, and eventually I insisted that I be allowed to stop taking the medication. Of course, I have strong reactions to most medications (non-drowsy allergy meds will make me unable to sleep for 48 hours), so my reaction isn't typical. My mother took Paxil for 6 weeks after having surgery for breast cancer and never had any trouble with it. If you've been taking the stuff for longer than 3 or 4 weeks and still have problems, definitely talk to your doctor about what you can take instead.

I would highly like to recommend a book called 'The antidepressant fact book'.....I was placed on paxil for a few days while still in the hospital for a heart related problem, and when I was able to find out about the medication I discontinued it immediately.

I know lots of people take it, but it is not for everyone....I urge you to use caution and research this medication as much as possible. I would also hope you consider a second opinion.

In regards to your side effects, Paxil has been known to create a variety of these problems. It just may not be for you, and I would discuss this with the doctor who gave it to you.....best of luck.

I took Paxil for a while, and never had those side effects. However, it wasn't very effective for me. I then took Effexor, which was very effective, but left me with terrible withdrawl symptoms if I forgot to take it at the same time every day. I am now on Cymbalta and Wellbutrin together, which is actually a very good combination, and prescribed by my doctor (I'm not a drug addict or anything). The Cymbalta (and Effexor) work on seratonin levels, which many other antidepressants do not. The Cymbalta also does not leave me with the horrible feeling of withdrawl. Also, the Wellbutrin helps with sexual side effects. It is actually prescribed at times to increase libido. Hope this helps.

Call your pharmasist and ask him these questions. Now you should have gotten a paper with the list of side effects on it. See if you can find it before you call him, check on the list for the things you mentioned. It is NOT the same as taking hormones. I think, it takes about at least 2 or 3 weeks to feel the effects. Could there be something else going on in your body or enviroment?

yes they are also side effects of paxil although maybe not as common... after a few months on the meds some of the more pronounced side effects should dissipate. If not see your doctor to discuss this issue.

Yes. I take Effexorxr and it makes me sweat like a freeking pig. Better than being suicidal but it does suck. I've been on my meds for 2 1/2 years, still the same sweating problem. My Dr. did prescride clonidine for the night sweats and it helped a lot.
Good luck!

yes, unfortunately it is a fairly common side effect of antidepressants. i had the same problem with a couple of different ones. i got feed up with not being able to sleep because of this and stopped taking them. they says lexapro is supposed to have the least amount of side effects, but that the one i just stopped cold turkey on cause i couldnt take it anymore. Mine lasted for a few months

Here are some side effects listed from drugs.com:

agitation, confusion, sweating, fast heartbeat

If it's really a problem for you and/or it happens often, you should speak to your doctor. Everyone is different so maybe he'll just tell you it will fade away or he'll switch the strength or the drug itself.
