I know you have to be "saved" to get into heaven. I know you have to ask the Lord the free gift. At what point are you really saved or are you just a decent person, try to do good but still fall short?

The basis for this question is that supposedly a lot of people who are saved will still go to hell

Both James and 1John were written to address the questions you have. They both have "tests" for lack of a better word, for believers to look at themselves to have knowledge of their spiritual condition. Perhaps, to simplify it, are you bearing fruit? Are you different than you were before conversion? Do you have the Holy Spirit within you to testify to you of God's truth as well as to testify of your conversion and confession? You won't be perfect - none of us are - but you will be moving away from your worldly lusts and desiring the things of the Spirit.

Most of the answers so far agree, as they should, that as soon as you accept Jesus as your savior, you are saved.

Also, where do you get the information that anyone who is saved will go to hell? That is not biblical. The only possible exception to this that I can think of is if a Christian takes the mark of the beast during the Great Tribulation at the end of these times. I believe that this person would be a "Tribulation Saint," a person who comes to faith in Christ after the rapture of the Church. If such a person were to then take the mark of the beast, I believe that they would then be damned and be thrown into hell, and eventually, after the Great White Throne Judgment, into the lake of fire.

Otherwise, once saved, always saved; the idea of "eternal security."

That's what Jesus is for, when we fall short He can pick you up, forgive you and give you strength to try again.

It's way easier if you are Baptized in the Holy Spirit however. Once the Spirit of Jesus fills you, you have the power to change your life, the power to understand the scripture better, the power to pray in the Spirit.

Keep seeking the Lord and you will find HIM

No one who is saved will go to hell.

You're saved at the moment you believe Jesus died to save you and you accept that as personal truth. That very instant.

You will always fall short of Gods standards because our minds have not been renewed. We rely on the Grace of God (which is Jesus) to fill in the gaps between our lacking character and his standards.

You dont battle with murder (or atleast most people dont), you arent tempted to shoot someone in the face when you get angry, you dont catch yourself killing someone and thinking "Great, i killed AGAIN." Its simply not a flaw in your character, not a weakness you have, You already meet Gods standard in that area.

On the otherhand, perhaps you have a problem with lying, and no matter what you cannot fix it in yourself. So you rely on Jesus to meet the need for you, and to bring you up in that area. So you ask him to help you and then pay attention when he teaches you how.

We are saved by grace and grace alone, the death of Jesus on the cross is our ticket to heaven, but, we do have to accept him on our life and let him be the ruler of it. We have an advocate in heaven which is Jesus, so if we fall short he can forgive us and we can move on in our christian journey like we never committed that sin.

The nicest thing is that, at the end, God will impute Jesus's perfect life unto ours and we can be count with the righteous even though we are sinners. Bottom line is; we need Jesus to go to heaven, his perfect life will be the one that will guaranteed and spot in heaven if we accept him.

God bless!!

Well I have never seen anywhere in the Bible where it says that you go to heaven or hell at death. I read and reread Ecclesiastes 9:5&6 and it says nothing about where you go after death it just simply says what happens to them at death................Where does it say that in the Bible? I'de like to read that. I could never understand why a loving God who created both Heaven and earth could ask us to repent and then turn around and threaten them with an everlasting fire if they chose not to obey him. What happened to free will that's what he's given all of us....remember Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden.................

Many people believe that you can be baptisted and then go to heaven. But you have to be saved to the end....Everyone falls short. read about Job, he lost all he had, but he stilled believed. Jesus said you must follow my commandments. And all of his commandents fall into one category...Love ye one another as I have loved you.

We ALL fall short, that's the point of asking to be saved in the first place. Only you and God will know if you truely meant it when you invited him in.

I don 't know where you heard that "a lot of people who are saved will go to hell" but I do know that if you are really saved you will know it.

I will give you the answer from the authority that I use to answer all questions of this nature: the bible.

"If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart God raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved".
