I'm arriving in Paris 8/22 for a 7 day stay...does anyone have any last minute tips? Good deals, good sights, etc. I wouldn't mind some good website suggestions for a pass-I saw the paris pass, I don't know if it's worth it. I want to get the most for my money, the US dollar isn't doing very well over there. I plan on taking a day trip to Versailles, maybe London, and then the tower, Champs, Arc, etc. Is it worth buying the museum pass when I buy the metro pass? Which river tour is the best? Thanks

I have lived for Paris for the past 2 years. Here are a few things I would suggest you do.

1) Get a good map of the city with the major sites on it and WALK everywhere. This city is made for walking. You will have the most beautiful surprises just by wandering from point to point and taking in what you see and stopping to explore things that catch your eye.

2) Definitely get the museum pass if you like museums. Not only is it good value - but you also get to jump the lines getting into some where there is a long line of people waiting to buy tickets.

3) Enjoy the cafe life. Paris is about watching people. Bring a few good books. Every now and then as you are walking about town, stop at a cafe that has a good spot on a boulevard, order an espresso or whatever it is you enjoy, and just watch the world go by. No other city in the world is better designed for people watching.

4) Go for a drink at the top of the Pompidou Center at sunset. Certainly one of the best views over the city.

There are so many things in Paris to enjoy it is hard to go wrong. I hope that you have a wonderful trip! You will love Versailles, and don't forget to explore the gardens there too. They are also magnificient.

If you need more tips post another more specific question!

Cheers!

never ask anyone to take your picture around the eiffel tower unless you like it snatched and stolen from you. Also always put on wist lace. There are a lot of theives...and I've seen that happened 2 times. The police can't help you because they can't arrest teenagers. There is this hop on hop off tour bus that takes you to 7 popular location in Paris. It cost no more than $50 for 2 days tickets. basically, ..just hop off the bus when you get to eiffel tower and get back on it and go to the other popular stop. I believe it is 7-8 buses and there is one every 30 min. Quite an adventure. You can obtain this info at your hotel. Try not to eat any food that is off street vendor..sure it feels authentic.. but bad sanitation reasons...IE ..they dont have any sink to wash their hands. just remember you are traveling and getting sick is the last thing you wish to happen to you. Crepes, Escargo, Rabbit , Wine, french onion soup are the common typical food . Make sure you try them. Make sure you plan a day to go to the LUE i believe that's how it's spelled... You dont want to just take a glimpse of the mona lisa and leave just like me. You want to look arond. take about 5 hours i say.

Take the tour on the river at night when the Eiffel tower is lit up. I believe it's the Seine river. very pretty. Definitely go up the tour...it's beautiful. go to the National galleries. I think the admission isn't very expensive. also i wouldn't go to Le Louvre. It's huge and you probably will get lost. It will be a waste of time. I saw the Mona Lisa when I was there and it wasn't very impressive. If you go to London I suggest seeing the changing of the guards at Buckingham Palace... very interesting...Have fun...I had a blast!
