We should not let people upset us.
It is called maturity.
We only live once. Why upset the apple cart.

I've thought about this before. The internet is overflowing with message boards where individuals spend countless hours every day essentially fighting over who meant what in their posts. And each post (trying to explain that the other person(s) didn't comprehend what person A meant) is yet another post that is taken wrong and needs to be explained. It can drive you crazy. I gave up message boards altogether.
This "Answers" thing is a little different. It's not so easy to get into a heated debate.
To answer your question: most everyone does feel hurt from words; even words posted by a stranger that other strangers can see.

It is our responsibility to express ourselves so we can be understood. If others cannot comprehend what we say, then we must express ourselves more clearly.
Communication is not about words, but about having your expressed thoughts received and understood by another. Whether we use words, body language, facial expressions or signing, we try to communicate our thoughts, views, feelings... to another so that we are understood. If we are misunderstood then we have failed to communicate clearly enough to the receiver.
Everyone receives information differently. The same expression will reach some but not others. We then try again.
Words do not discriminate. Words used with the intent to hurt are capable of causing pain with children and with seniors citizens. Age is not a requirement.

If you are saying that words people say to you can't hurt you, my friend, I've got news for you. Words can hurt. Words cut people down and make them feel bad. If you don't feel hurt when someone says something nasty to you, then you probably have no feelings at all.

Your right in one aspect ..and wrong in another ...words do not hurt ....it is the intention behind them ....when someone carelessly ...or deliberately says something that they know will hurt....then yes ...you can take it personal....and be upset....or you can be upset ..because you did not notice how hurtful that persons words can be before and you realise ...they must hurt inside that is why they are so nasty...now why didnt you notice they were hurting????

We shouldn't be upset if they cannot comprehend what we say. Perhaps we are unable to express ourselves properly, or perhaps they think on a different wave length. Whatever the problem, we are responsible for ourselves and if we feel frustrated it should be to ourselves and not our friends. We need to think about things more and talk less.

Yes, we have to become mature to realize that words cannot hurt us.
When we are a little more mature, we realize that beating cannot hurt us.
When we are fully mature, we realize that killing cannot hurt us.
In the same time we realize a more important thing: our soul is deadly affected when we criticize, we beat or we kill other people.

In no way should we get upset when someone does not grab what we are saying to them, They also have feelings, and WE should rephrase our words and show Compassion.

other than bullets and bombs words are the most hurtful things that can be used toward people, even in so called peace time.

I can't speak for you, but words can still hurt me and I'm in my 50's.
