I know your upset and at your age we really don't like our mothers telling us what to do. That said, I'm a teacher and it breaks my heart to hear you say you want to quit high school. Please stay in school, get your diploma, and either let the money stay in your CD, or use it for community college or training for a job. I know when your young, you think everything will be all rosy, but you found out that bad things do happen to good people. What if the accident had been your fault, and you were driving. Who would have paid for your medical costs? I know your angry with your mother, but $4000 will not pay for a car an apartment, clothes, or food. You're an intelligent young lady, think this through before you make any rash decisions.

Wow! I hate to say it, but your mom is right!
She is right about everything she has told you. The best thing for you to do is leave the money alone, finish school. Go to college (if that's your plan), then maybe your mom will be willing to talk about spending the money. I'm sure she wants it to spent wisely, and right now you are too young and immature to have that kind of money at your disposal, regardless of how many casts you had. You are acting like a little child having a tantrum, grow up!

I'm sure as a mother, she's concerned over your future. I think she just wanted to make sure you don't squander your money away. You didn't tell us what you wanted to do with that money, so we cannot honestly tell you if you are wrong or right. Why would you want to drop out of high school? Do you have a plan in mind? She's not preventing you from using your money. She's just concern over what you want to do with your money. I'm assuming you are a teenager. You need to take a break, reflect back on what you really want in life and have a matured conversation with your mother. Money is the root of all evil. Don't let this be a reason you fall out with your mother.

Maybe your mom is saving the money FOR you. She may not think you will spend it wisely. It costs alot of money for gas, cars, insurance, college etc. If she is keeping it in an account and not spending it frivolously on selfish things- give her the benefit of the doubt- in the future, you will be glad that she was thinking ahead. Also, in a CD there are time limits that you have to keep the money there or you will have a penalty fee. Maybe thats what is going on. ask her.

You are lucky your mother cares about your future. She put that money in there so you wouldn't spend it on stupid stuff. My mother would have told me she put it into an account and would have spent it for me. Consider yourself lucky!
Chill out and wait until you are old enough to make a responsible decision.

Why in the world did you allow you to just waste $1000? What do you have to show for it? When you turn 18 I would think you will automatically gain control of the funds, then you can waste it anyway you wish.

She's right. You're young and you don't have the metality to put your hands on that money. You're just going to waste it. You're going to wish you had that money saved when you are older. Hold on to it and stop arguing about it.

You need to concentrate on high school. Once you turn 18 or graduate, I would ask for it.
