Why do Protestants say they came before Catholics when clearly... they branched off from the Roman Catholic.

Most Christians churches (if not all) claim to best represent the original intent or "truth" of Christianity. Technically the Roman Catholics are the first BIG church and descended from the original church, but Constantine modified Christianity tremendously and modern Catholicism doesn't really represent early Christianity. What's more there were at least 3 different early Christian sects that were all a bit different and produced different gospels.

It's pretty interesting stuff to study, but it also points out that NONE of today's churches come remotely close to what Jesus' desciples had in mind.

I am Protestant and my ancestory is from Britain.

I believe that the Protestant Church sprang into life during the reign of Henry the 8th.

I have not researched Europe as a whole, but will now get on the net and educate myself.

Also, I have never heard a Protestant say they came before the Catholics, but then maybe they were kidding you.

I don't know any Protestants who say that... in fact YOU even have it wrong... they aren't even a branch off from the Roman Catholic... they are a separate religion... Catholicism went wayward and Martin Luther gave his life to protect the true religious beliefs and to keep Christianity pure... Thus was born Protestantism...

Catholicism isn't Christianity... they are totally different...

I don´t know if the term, branch off is correct in this case. But you are right, we cannot say that we came first nor catholics. At the beginning (after Jesus died) there was only one church.

No idea. The original churches of Christ were Catholic and Greek Orthodox. Everything else branched off.

Because they do not want to admit that Catholics are Christians before them

I have never heard of this, but I believe that Jesus came to the earth to free us from religions. He wanted to teach us to have a personal relationship with God.No one will enter to the Father's house except through Jesus.

Religion can not save you, Jesus can. We get saved only by the grace and mercy of God.

honestly, it drives me nuts. i being a protestant, it kills me. people these days are so ignorant. if i ask someone their religion, they give me their denomination, not realizing that Catholocism, Baptist, Methodist, Prespitarian, Church of God, whatever...are all CHRISTIANITY!!! so many people don't understand "their religion"...let alone where it came from. simply, it's ridiculous.

All want their religion to be the oldest. Religion and rationality are opposite poles.
