While I'm not in any of the Yahoo Answers cliques, I will try to answer your question.

The "Mystery Religions" are the religions that deal with sacred knowledge that only a chosen few know. For example, Christianity is not a Mystery Religion because every Christian can look up anything they want to in the Bible. Scientology would be classified as a Mystery Religion because only those followers who have proven themselves worthy (by advancing levels) have access to the sacred information.

A mystery religion is any religion with secret wisdom. In a mystery religion, an inner core of beliefs, practices, and the religion's true nature, are revealed only to those who have been initiated into its secrets.

Examples of current mystery religions:

The Druze religion
The Yezidi religion
Santería
Candomblé
Odin Brotherhood
Gnosticism
Esoteric Christianity
Hermeticism
Shaolin (eastern origin)
Thelema
Wicca (esp. British Traditionalist).

Examples of mystery religions no longer practiced:

The Eleusinian Mysteries
Pythagoreanism
The Cult of Orpheus
The Cult of Osiris
The Cult of Dionysus
The Cult of Isis
The Cult of Attis (in its original form, but see also Modern Gallae)
The Cult of Tammuz
Manichaeism
Mithraism
Gnosticism

Among the rivals of early Christianity were the "mystery" religions, so-called because they each revolved around a secret myth and rite that were imparted to initiates after due preparation.

Among these religions were the worship of Cybele, the Great Mother; of Mithra, the Sun God; of Isis and Osiris; of Dionysius; the Eleusinian Mysteries of Demeter, etc. Initiates into the religion of Cybele were bathed in the blood of a bull sacrificed above a trench called the taurobolium in which they huddled. Gods like Serapis and Osiris, Attis and Isis... joined a myth and a ceremony together: the compound was particularly strong in cults which kept their "myth" secret.... In a mystery cult... the relation between a mythical "secret" and a cult act was very close. One of the attactions of these competing esoteric faiths was their secrecy - the lure of the unknown but disclosable "mystery" that only the members of the group could attain.

Well I suppose they are paths and groups of people that try to explain the world's greatest mysteries. They pull the best part of each religion and make a super-religion in a sense. There is alot of metaphysical overlap and the knowledge attainable has big rewards but dangerous in the hands of people who don't understand personal responsibility. They know about perception on multiple levels of existence and our ability to be aware in them. They know that this is just another form of a "spiritual environment" and no different than any other consensus environment created by like minds via creative intent.

It's a mystery. Through sacred ritual performance and in the ingesting of ritual food, the neophyte is initiated into the infinite cosmic pools, reflecting into the Earth plane where they are historically referred to as Mystery Religions.

The question is, "To which Mystery Religion do you refer?"

Religions from after the time of Christ.

In the mystery religions, the followers were supposed to have secret knowledge (mysteries) which helped them to gain points with their gods.

Cordially,
