Ive read the book JRT for Dummies. Now is it true that they arent good apartmetn dogs? The reason I ask is b/c there is a shelter where i live in Dallas that has rescued over 100 JRTs and Rat terriers. Thanks!

I have a JRT and she is very hyper. She is really a sweet little puppy tho. She gets hyper and tends to wear herself out very easily. When she is worn out she lounges around and snuggles alot and she chews on her bones. My puppy is short legged bread and she will not get more than 9-or 10lbs. They dont eat much food like a big dog would. Our puppy is an inside dog. These puppies are very good around kids to. Because my pup is so hyper she probably wouldnt be a good small apt. dog. JRT's are pretty hearty dogs and can be pretty hyper. They like to Jump alot and run. They really need alot of room to run around and play, dont get me wrong tho JRT's make great pets!! GOOD LUCK

They BARK a lot and can be destructive. I know of four JRT's that were sent to the shelter last week because they were "evicted" from the building they lived in. Give it a lot of thought first. Some shleters would not adopt these out to someone in an apartment.

Jack Russell's make great pets, anywhere. The problem is YOU have to be as active as the Jack. And JRT's are VERY active.
Mine is CRAZZZZY but I love her and wouldn't trade her for the world!!!

Very true. Darn things have more energy per pound than uranium. If your place isn't large enough for it to get up to full speed running, plan on walking your dog for at least an hour a day, EVERY day. Also, I've noticed they seem to chew things more in confined spaces, but that may be just me.

i would say anythings possible, but most people with apartments that have dogs will most likely take their dogs on walks and some dont. jrt need lots and lots of exercise. they need room to run and people who love them to keep them busy.

Jack Russell are full of kisses! That's what my daughter says about her new puppy. We got the baby at the pound for her wedding present. I am going to tell you about hers....Forrest is retarded, he's hyper, he tears things up (like $80 college books)
he can't figure out what his tail is for, he's all legs, he's always getting his head stuck in things.....
Now, let me tell what's to love about Forrest, he loves you! He has the sweetest nature, he loves to give kisses, he likes to play with all the neighbor kids, he never meets another dog he doesn't like, he's quiet, he's tries to open the door of her apartment, he sleeps in the car on the 5 hour drive home to see his Grandma,
he loves french fries, he's full of energy, and he's always ready to give you a good laugh.....
Forrest should be an outside dog or at least where he can run most of the day. My daughter and her husband work full time and go to college. So, they spend most of their time at home with Forrest outside, or watching him play in his pool that I bought him.
That little fellow for all his problems, is my daughter's sanity. He's so full of love, and compassion for her. Makes a darn good watch dog too! The vets that I talked to say Forrest is more hyper than normal, so I think we just got a spunky one! I think a Jack Russell would make you a good apartment dog....
Forrest is a welcome addition to our family, and my dog of 9 years puts up with him when he visits. Forrest has given up trying to be his friend, Bobo is just too old and spoiled to have another puppy in the house. Best wishes on your new addition!

God bless us all.................

There not suppose to be good for apartments there very active but if your active and are willing to walk it alot that it would be great to give a homeless dog a good home.

No they are not good apartment dogs at all, ours didn't even work in a suburban type place. They need a lot of exercise, I mean a lot! More than we could give. He was loved but that wasn't enough. Needs a lot of room to run. Yikes, they also eat their own stool (poo).

Wonderful loving little dogs who bounce off walls at best. They need a yard, a big yard, and to be outside chasing squirrels and barking if anyone dares to be on their street.
