this question is asked on the behalf of my mom, 50, who has terminal cancer. the situation is this. her husband of 30 years is an alcoholic. he can be a really nice guy or the worst person in the world. he is unemployed and lives with no electricity or water. his car is a 1988 chevy nova that could blow up at anytime. however her sister has been very supportive during her illness, doing many things to help in various ways. her car is an early 90's model cavalier that is still running but getting old. should she leave it to her husband of 30 years, who has serious problems of his own, and that has caused much torment for my mom, or her sister that has tried to help in everyway possible since she was diagnosed in march of this year? the sister's husband does have a good paying job however they are tryin to put their son in college. he could afford a car if he had to buy one but it would help them out if they had my mom's car. if dad gets the car he may use it wisely or foolish

"He might use it wisely".....but he probably won't. Unless he's on a back-to-nature kick, living in the woods, living without water or electricity is a dead giveaway that he's not living responsibly.

Is your mother unable to make the decision at this time? Does she have a will? It would be up to her; if you're acting on her behalf, what would she want you to do? If you do nothing, won't her husband get the car automatically?

It sounds like your sister deserves the car more.

The sister, who has been so helpful, and could put good use to the car. The husband might end up selling the car, or wrecking it. An alcoholic has no business driving any car. Drunk drivers kill others daily,

maybe sister ...but she can still support herself as her husband has decent job.

still giving to her husabnd is ok.
1) If his car blow up, where will he find money to fix or get a new car? of course from his wife.
2) If he found out the car give to his sister instead of him, he will frustrated and cause more chaos in house.
3) well, he can still get DUI with his almost blow up chevy anyway.

Definately the sister to give to her son who is going off to college.

NOT DAD!

Or, sell the car and put the money to good use like your education, future, etc.

God Bless and my prayers are with your family

Give it to a charity ( women's Crisis Center) or to a local church.
Or sell it and use the money for burial needs. This way no one can be offended because they didn't get it.

maybe they should give the car to the nephew in college. he is trying to make something of himself...why not help him. or maybe your mom should just sell the car and split the cash between the people.

you mom is married so i believe her car would go to her husband unless the car is ONLY in your mom's name.

just donate to charity and get the tax write-off....keep the peace.
