If your already worrying about your weight. You have a long road ahead of you. This is a subject that will haunt you everytime a PT test comes up. Once you are flagged for being overweight you cannot get promoted, can get put on special PT (fatboy pt) or other restrictions and loss of privilages. The height weight body fat calculation is old and outdated. I'm 5'5 and 27 years old and am suppose to weigh no more than 145 without being overweight. Research AR-600-9 to find the accurate answer. That is the reg for the height weight standards. This is a policy that needs to be revised and is very outdated.

I don't know what the exact % is, but if you are close then you really need to work on it. Don't let it discourage you too much though. I know guys on my ship that have been in for 10 years and always floated right around the "overweight" line. You'll just have to be real careful about what you eat and get into a work out routine. Also, if you can get yourself down to the right weight to get through MEPS, then Boot Camp will take care of the rest. I know people who lost 20 pounds in boot camp. Good luck...

You cant have more then 22% body fat. I know this because when I crossed from the AF to the Army I was overweight. I weigh a lot but its not because I am fat its because I work out a lot and as everyone knows muscle weighs more then fat. So yeah when I crossed over a couple months ago it was 22%. I came out with only 6% so its not hard to get under 22.

I am not a recruiter but I have experience; been in both. Advice: depending on what you want to do (and u do meet weight requirements) join the Air National Guard!!!!! Again it depends on what u want. A faceless number or a valued asset. Good luck.
