There is little in common between fishing in the ocean and a lake except for the fact that most fish feeding is done under water. It is helpful to know what you are fishing for. Ask what is it that they eat (preferred food source), and how do they acquire it. Some fish hide and ambush their food, others swim and chase their food and some just wait until something edible sinks to the bottom (that's how power bait works besides the smell and color).
Good fishing is usually based on a small amount of home work. Good luck

Depending on the species you're targeting the bait varies. Predatory fish like Bass, trout and such are caught with a variety of stuff form worms to powerbait to lures. Most of the time any bait that is or represents a bait fish will work well for you. For ocean fishing small bait fish, squid, shrimp or cut bait work well. Figure out what you want to catch and try to use bait that is or mimics what they eat. half the fun is figuring out what they want to ewat and serving it up. Good luck and Tight Lines!

I do most of the fishing at lake. I have sucessfully caught many trouts. I used the rainbow powerbait and worms. Trouts love worms, and almost every trout I caught in lake were caught by worm. The best way to catch trout at lake is to do trolling. I also caught some stream or creek trout, they seem to love powerbait and salmon eggs.

i would say for the ocean is that if u are using a little fish, move the rod around so it looks like it is moving. Otherwise try being patient, reeling it in every 10 min. or so. happy fishing

Here in Missouri we like to use worms. However, a crawdads works as well. I have been having good luck with an artificial crawdad that is light brown in color and has salt. The best thing to do is throw different bait at them and see what they like. I have caught them on every thing from baloney to those Orange Circus Peanuts candy.

for lake fishing one stategy is knowing the water clarity. if the lake your fishing is clear your better off using lifelike shad imitatioin baits. the chartruse colors are usually more effective in muddier water. rapala make some nice lifelike lures.
