I am not going into the the whole vibration vs sound argument, however the answer is yes.
We do not have to hear something for it make sound, only for us to hear the sound.
I have a very simple answer to this, ask yourself the question - If, a range of equipment was set up to record the sound within the forest, When the tree fell do you think it would or wouldn't record the sound of a falling tree, for you to hear later?
Of course it would, I don't feel the need to go all scientific or philisophical on this, because event happen all the time we are unaware of where it be in sight, sound, touch, taste etc, they still happened.
Warm Regards Armand

yes. it will make a sound wether someone hears it or not. however, these days with all the forests being cut down thats highly unlikely that theres a forest with no one close enough to hear a falling tree.

This is one of the first lectures in philosophy. Of course it makes a sound, but if nobody is around, it will not be registered. This is the
awareness of man who knows which way to run and to handle the
situation. An animal will also run out of instinctive fear and it will not
necessarily go in the right direction. This is the difference between
awareness and instinct. Awareness is a conscious reaction which
will lead man to take the correct decision. It is a gift of God and
and a privilege known only to man.

Hee hee hee...I've had quite a conversation about this topic.
I think it does not make a sound, but rather a noise. The noise wouldn't become a sound until it was interpreted by an ear. The vibrations are still put off (the noise) but if the vibrations are not interpreted (sound) it doesn't make a sound.
Wow, why yes, that is my strange, twisted logic.

Of course it makes a noise. If you know it makes a noise when you hear it. You would have to be very egocentric to think it wouldn't make a noise when you are not around to hear. You have nothing to do with whether it makes a noise or not. The world does not rotate around you. Therefore, the answer is yes.

YES... it does, the little forest animals heard it, and NO-ONE was around, so they didnt hear it, physically it had to make a sound, u mustve gotten that from some cartoon.

yes, it will make a sound, it is just that nobody is around to hear it. just like lightning striking the earth where places people cannot see or where people do not live. just because no body saw it does not mean it does not exist.

it does, just because no one can hear doesn't mean it doesnt make a noise because many trees have fallen before and have been heard and it also depends on how big the tree is..i would continue but i feel way to nerdy ^.^

When no-one is around they sqeal like stuck pigs.
I once went in undercover disguised as David Attenbrough's cuff link and just laid on his sleeve and listened as they tumbled.
