It's a birthmark not skin cancer. When you go to see your doctor next time for a school physical, or the flu or something, have him/her check it out. It will put your mind at ease.

If this has been present all your life, it purely a birthmark. However, if it has changed recently, this IS a cause for concern if the mark got (or if you have any mark that does this) :
1. Bigger
2. More irregular.
3. Now has raised boarders (but didn't before).
4. Has turned colors (especially black)
5. Bleeds excessively.
I have had friends who had to have skin cancers removed as early as 20. So don't be afraid to have a dermatologist check it out if you have any of the above changes. He/she can also take baseline measurements to make sure it doesn't change over time.

Don't take any chances. Go to the dermatologist to have it checked. The only way to tell if a suspicious mark is cancer is by a biopsy of the tissue.
My husband had a tiny speck on his nose. It was stage 2. The doctor said it probably had been growing since he was a kid. He was fine after it was removed, but he still needs to see the dermatologist once a year.

If you've had it all your life, it is probably not cancer. Birthmarks tend to have irregular edges to them. However, next time you see your doctor, have it checked out to make sure it hasn't turned into cancer (a possibility - depending on the type of birthmark).

It might be nothing to worry about, but get it checked anyway. Early detection will save you a lot of hassle later on.
