Its better than living in a tent/ Our community took a direct hit from Hurricane Rita and I know of a family who is living in a tent in the woods after their house was destroyed. Texas took in thousands of Katrina refugees and opened its collective hearts to those people. Then when we needed help the $$$ money went to Louisiana because Rita straddled the state line between TX and LA.

I hosted a family of four during hurricane Rita and when the father was able to return to his job FEMA set him up in a trailer that was in the driveway of his home.
It was not a large trailer and it was not furnished like a "home" would be. He had to take the money that he got from FEMA and get the necessities to live.
It was a new trailer and it was clean.

I kept his three girls here with me and my little girl and enrolled them in school here. They lived with me for 3 or 3 1/2 months.

I thought that it would be better for the children to be in a stable home, go to school (their schools were closed) and have as much of a normal life that they could under the circumstances.
