They still haven't came inspected my house yet. Ha. ha...
We had a tree in the back portion of our home, and we got the papers to fill out, sent them back in, was turned down. Told us to try for a SBA loan....what a nightmare...turned down again,,,even though we took a $69,000 loss to our business that the insurance didn't cover...We didn't bother by figuring what we lost on the house because, I didn't want to cry and cuss anymore!
FEMA is doing a good job for the most part, but there's people that are falling through the cracks. Then there's some that know just what to say and to do, to make their lives VERY comfortable off the government. Hope some of those get caught!
Stay on top of the paperwork, and hopefully you can get something done for yourself.
It's going to be a year since Katrina blew threw here, and it's going to years before we are "normal" again.....if ever....
Thanks for the question, good to hear from someone near! I am on the MS coast!
God bless us all!!!!

Fema's giving everyone a hard time they say they're going to help those people in hurricane Katrina, did they? I think it's messed up how our government has a federal system that's suppose to assist American citizens in their times of need but don't i just want to know what is the main purpose of this organization? I hope that you get your help as soon as possible so that you can get out your unfortunate situation.

I have heard that a lot of people have had problems with FEMA, but the family that I know that was displaced by hurricane Rita had no problems at all.
They got the money needed for clothes, necessities, and living expenses fairly quickly, they got a trailer, and also have received the loans needed to rebuild their home and make it even better then it was before.
I think a lot has to do with if you are single or if you have children.
And it also depends on if you have all the paperwork needed. Also it depends on how much you stay on their butts about it.

I don't know what your situation is, however I know from living here in New Orleans many have been experiencing the same sort of problems with FEMA. Many have gone to the channel 4 news station , Bill Cappo, to get assistance with slow , or no response. Many of my friends have finally started living back in their own homes but were living in FEMA trailers, and it took a lot of constant follow up for them to even get the trailers to be able to live. Try the websites for our local news channels and see if you may get some helpful information. Try also going to FEMA's website look under financial and personal assistance. They also give you a number to call if you can't get through, or having trouble getting response.
My heart goes out to you, many days I want to give up at leave this city, but it is home and what we have been through is difficult. Don't give up, look at every available resource to get the assistance you need to get back on your feet. WE NEED ALL OUR GOOD PEOPLE HERE TO RE-BUILD OUR LIVES CITY AND HOMES.

They are like the department of public social services. There real agenda is to disqualify as many people as possible not help them. I am not prejudiced at all, but if your white and go try and get general relief you have to have more patience than Job and stay one step ahead of however they are going to try and f--- you. One time I had to make 12 phone calls because my worker wouldnt take my form out of her basket and her supervisor wouldnt go get it. There is a very special place in hell for people like that and in fema too. Never doubt it. We wont be there they will.
