I dont know about the Phillippines, but I'm sure that they have done little to eliminate poverty here in the USA.

None. They haven't even worked on alleviating poverty right here in America. It's been very good at alleviating the rich from whatever problems they're experiencing.

There are a number of programs to alleviate the poor... "SUPERMAID" being the latest, "Farm to Market Roads", "Job Fairs" etc. to name a few. But if we talk about Urban Poverty - I don;t believe these programs work. We are currently active in helping the children living in the dumpsite of Cavite City - similar to smokey mountain and payatas area. The latest is "The prostituted children of Cavite" - The lives of these poorest of the poor just got worse because of the closing of the dumpsite due to a DENR order. ...to answer your question, there are so many programs - but they do not work. These are all just grandstanding.

i think Pres. Gloria Arroyo promised a lot of jobs for those who have no work... but i just don't know if this has really alleviated the poverty of the country..
