Chihuahuas are the smallest dogs. Even a grown Chihuahua will usually weigh less than 6 lb and they are great dogs.

Lists several small breeds. But let's not forget the good ole mutts. They are some of the best dogs around. You could always check your local shelter for small pups/dogs there. Don't forget if you get an older dog they are sometimes already house trained and you don't have to go through the annoying puppy chewing stage. So at least consider adopting an older dog, they need good homes too.

Some breeds are Yorkies, Cocker Spaniels (I have this breed and love her very much!) as well as Jack Russells but they are a very hyper, bouncy and yappy dog. Chiuaua's are also a small breed but I don't think they are an attractive dog, same with Pugs. Take your pick but be careful as some breeds are better with training and kids and stuff. You need to research what kind of dog suits your needs and lifestyle. Whatever you decide good luck and enjoy!!

If you want a small loving dog I would say a pomeranian. I have a miniature pom and she only weighs 6 lbs. Or you could go for a chihuahia (spelling?) but I don't really like those. A maltese stays small but requires lots of grooming. A papillion is a cute little dog. Or, a dashund.

Try a Teacup Chihuahua, very small.
Fits in a teacup. Or a pocket. Always cute!
Though normal Chihuahuas are fine too.
Yorkies, I really like them.

The smallest I can think of is a Yorkshire Terrier. I have one that's 2 lbs. 6 oz. and yep, she's full-grown. =)

Chihuahuas. I have two of them and I love them to death! Don't get a teacup though, they're way to small. Its a danger to have them in my opinion
