How old was the kitten when you got him? Often kittens who are removed from their mothers too young will have a long lasting nursing practice. They will try to nurse blankets, earlobes, fingers...etc. This isn't overly dangerous to the cat.

One way to solve it involves bottle feeding him for a short time. He's too old to cut off of dry food, but an occassional bottle of kitten milk (while cuddling you) can help give him the connection of having a momma. Generally you only need to do this once or twice a day for a short time. With his age he should lose interest in nursing within a few short weeks. He isn't so much looking for milk as he is the connection.

This action is called kneading. When a kitten gets nursed, they will suck, obviously. They also knead, or press one foot them the other on the nipple area. This helps stimulate milk production. It doesnt mean he was taken from his mother too early, contrary to popular belief. When babies of any kind are nursed, they feel safe and comfortable. Your little guy feels safe with you so he is doing the same action that he did with his mother when he was nursed.

Don`t stop him, there is no need to. When a kitten kneads something, it means that he feels content and safe. If you don`t want him sucking on a particular piece of material, get him his own blanket. Make sure it is 100% cotton so he doesnt get pieces of string or material stuck in his mouth. A baby blanket will do nicely.

very just about all satisfied and content cloth cats do this. that signifies that your cat is in an exceedingly non violent position, and he feels secure and shelter. Kittens do this to their moms, and they regularly carry that habit into their lives with us as a results of the undeniable fact that is a cheerful habit. they gained't do this even with the undeniable fact that except they sense sturdy so it really is an exceedingly sturdy signal that he loves and trusts you! do not end him from doing it or you would possibly want to easily damage that love and believe. He might want to target to do it on your leg too in the destiny. If he's clawed then basically grin and bare it because it would want to damage slightly, yet he gained't mean any damage.

as said, it's probably because he was weaned too early. This may be because humans took him away from his mother, it oculd be because his mother had too many kittens and pushed him away. In any case, he may outgrow it, and he may not. I had a cat who would still suckle at blankets when he was 6 years old. I'd try my best to be gently firm to showing him that it's not acceptable behavoir, however, because it isn't good for the teeth.

He probably was not given enough time to nurse from his mother. It shouldn't be a problem. Even ingesting a little wool from the blanket probably won't cause him serious consequences.

Your kitten was taken from its mother too soon, and is repeating the behavior he learned when he was breastfed by his mother. I have had two cats in my life that have done the same thing and they did it all their lives.
