Hi there...some cats tend to prefer the texture of unusual objects such as cotton balls, plastic bags or other harmful items. Some medical professionals believe this either could stem from either being weaned too young or lacking a specific nutrient/vitamin in their diet, however nothing conclusive only speculation.

The cotton balls can injure him if he accidentally ingests enough fibres. It causes bowel obstruction which would require to be medically treated immediately as this could be fatal if enough is consumed. Consider offering him a fuzzy cat toy that has a similar texture. He will probably still growl which only means he is telling anyone around that this is his toy and to leave it or him alone.

Cat Ate Cotton Ball

He may just like the taste, but it may be due to a lack of fiber. If he's an indoor cat, he may be trying cotton as a substitute for grass. However, it isn't good for his digestive system, to try to keep the cotton balls in a place where he can't get them, then consider changing his diet. Move to a food formula more appropriate to his age and activity level, and if it seems like he's already got the right one, try getting a better food brand. It may be more expensive, but it'll save you money versus health issues and vet bills!

If he eats them you could be in for big trouble. They are not digestible and can plug him up. Then you may be looking at a serious surgical procedure to get the stuff out.

Find another soft toy that he can carry around in his mouth.

I had a cat that keep eating the fringe off the floor rugs. Nothing serious developed and I couldn't really keep the rugs away from her. You can at least not leave the cotton balls out for him to play with.

Cotton balls are bad for your cat. Mine had a love for q-tips and wound up at the vet as a result.

The cotton balls can be dangerous because they can block his digestive tract. It would be for the best to make sure he doesn't get any more of them and if he does, call up the vet.

you should place your cotton balls out of reach from your cat ok, maybe your cat has illness, it is trying to heal itself by eating cotton balls; thinking it is as fibrous as grasses....bring it to the grasses.
