I don't want you guys to be negative. I truly want to know. I use this site to help people and give advice, but also to learn about human nature, find friendly people, and to learn more about myself.

I just want to know why! WHY? WHY? WHY? I asked a question on here that said something like, "IF YOU KNEW HEAVEN WAS REAL, WOULD YOU GIVE UP YOUR LIFE DREAMS TO LEAD SOMEONE WHO WAS HEADED FOR HELL IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION?" The majority of people said they would give up their dreams, so that leads me to believe a lot of Christians question God's presence. WHY? WHY? WHY? I don't understand this place we live in.

Thanks for your answers. I appreciate it A LOT!

Various reasons...

(a) for some reason they might think it is stupid to believe in God

(b) they may have had a negative experience with a person who called themself a Christian

(c) they might be calling themselves an atheist to irritate their parents, or Christians etc

(d) if they had bad experiences with their father -- an absentee father -- or a physically or verbally abusive father -- that could turn them off to our heavenly father

(e) they may not realize that there is evidence for the existence of God.
--
Please be aware that there is scientific and intellectual evidence for the existence of God (e.g., see http://www.godsci.org/gs/godsci/evidence.htm )

I used to be an atheist. Over a period of time however, I grew convinced of the existence of the Christian God, and ultimately committed my life to Christ (e.g., see http://www.godsci.org/gs/chri/testimony/seek.html ).

Cordially,
John

Well first of all...you ask why people don't believe in God. Then you go about to mention Christianity. There are more religions in the world than Christianity. I would have preferred, and I'm sure others beside, if you asked why people didn't believe in God and left it open to all religions. I know one of the reasons why I don't want to believe anything in Christianity is because of some of the people that are Christians.

Let me give you an example that my friend once told me: "I have been around people that told me my religion was stupid, that God would take away his followers up to Heaven and then let us all nonbelievers perish in hell. Well, if they believe that then shouldn't they just live a happy believing life? Why become a part of my happiness, and tell me that my religion is fake? That where I grew up, the culture I am from, my traditions and my ways influenced the religion I took on and learned is stupid. Is that soo wrong? That's why I started disliking the path of Christianity merely because of Christians who were so "greedy". Because they believed they were the best. Ignorant.
My friend of course does not say this about all Christians but only to those who showed this type of behavior.
Hope that answers a bit of your question. Good day.

Wow the "best answer" is somewhat weighted. Generally speaking the belief in god is instilled from childhood. When you are not instilled with such and are free to make your own decisions you realise how ridiculous and childish it all sounds. With any ideology you are automatically prone to ignore facts/evidence against that and cherry pick convenient parts. Humanity started as Adam and Eve for example (Christianity). Well, humans would have a string of genetic problems due to inbreeding to this day. Noah's Ark, full of issues if you take it literally. The whole where did God come from thing. Science doesn't claim to know everything but that's ok, that's the nature of discovery.

Add on the numerous crimes resulting from religion and culture based on religion along with hatred of individuals (homosexuals for example) because they are different from you. Even warring variations of the same base religion (Protestants, Catholics, Shia and Sunni Muslims).

Ok first of I would like to say that Christians can be in a sense rude but it all depends on how they were raised on that religion. Now me being a Christian myself I don t down other beliefs just because I believe in God if that how they were raised then I can only do or say so much, I believe that God is real because well first off Christianity is the only religion the god accepts you and you don t accept God all you have to do is believe in him and follow the bible, now personally ever since ive felt like a better person. I would say that people that don t believe in a religion or God for this matter is that they are afraid of all the religions out there and which one to believe in. Another reason is that they don t want to imagine a place like Hell and there afraid if it might being real.

I respect all religions and all beliefs.
However, I personally don't believe in god. I believe in evolution, that there were other perhaps more developed societies in another galaxy which are maybe responsible for our existance, but who knows.
It's just hard to think there is a more powerful super-human that created everything, but everyone is entitled to their opinion and every one of these opinions is interesting!

People do not believe in God because Satan wants it that way. He deceives people by different methods. He wants nothing more than to keep people from coming to Christ and getting saved. Saved from what? would be there response. From eternal Hell. Satan again uses the vision of a loving God sending someone to hell as a deterrent for people to come to him. If he can have people tear God down and condemn those that are already with him then he will take another down with him. Satan only has so much time here before God pulls the plug. He knows what is going to happen to him. Satan's goal is to take as many with him as possible. Many are headed to hell because of there own choice. They have heard the good news yet they reject it. Why? It's because of our sinful nature. It will cause us much pain and suffering. Satan is always there to make us doubt. He will get a toe hold, then a foot hold and then before we know it he has our heart. It is the heart that must change not the mind.
It's the mind that he works on. We in our sin allow it to happen. Many atheists are very nasty when it come to
describing God. Much anger is there as well. Rejection has a price which they do not understand the repercussions of. One must understand what is going on with Good and evil forces. One must know who he truly is on the inside. The unbeliever has a lost soul and does not know who he is. God can quickly change that around.
The gift of eternal life is free but many still reject that free loving gift.

The way i would answer this question is by first pointing out nobody has ever given a proof for the existence of any deity. Any argument given for a god has been broken down and it's fallacies found, which all religious arguments contain somewhere. That is a reason behind my atheism. Our very own, and late Thomas Paine has laid out a list of arguments against a personal god that have never been addressed for 200 years. i would love to have a conversation with you to get your arguments, I love the idea of finding the argument that finally proves a god exists, and that it is the christian god. I've spent a great deal of time debating christians, and every argument has been fallacious.

I use to believe but now the party is over. How could god say you can only have one master me or money? Then on the other hand say you need to give 10% of your money to the church really? The rich get richer and the poor get poorer. I will believe when god lets me be financially stable until then I will not believe. I served him for over 50years he never once listened or answered any of my prayers. God wouldn't let all these people dye in Iraq, he wouldn't let hurricanes, earthquakes, or 911 happen he is god remember he wouldn't let people starve he wouldn't let people be homeless he is god we are his children he wouldn't let us live a life of unhappiness but yet he does. It is hard to believe someone you have worshipped your entire life that never answers any of your prayers I could go on and on but why bother it is what it is many things have happened to me in my life and I guess I have been dealt lemons and that is the way it is until god proves different.....if he wants me to believe he knows my situation and what I want in my life so until then I will be a non believer sorry if it offends some of you but I have my reasons

I don't know because there is no factual proof for his existence, Its not scientifically logical, people only believe because they want to because they are scared of hell and they want to live forever. Christians don't ask themselves...is this logical? Does it make sense? I don't blame them. Millions of children get indoctrinated into this lie that is purely a money scheme for churches. Ever wonder why these guys are living in palaces for doing a "public service". Public service my ***.

I am a believer in God... My actions don't show it and I'm ashamed of this... I feel that having a God bigger than life comforts me and keeps me safe from myself and hurting others... My fear is to be rejected by my God... We all need a father in our lives... Even those who lost their fathers long ago or despise them... It is a mighty sad and hopeless feeling to think that no one will miss me when my time comes but is much worse to have lived for nothing or no one...

Christianity is just a label ... Don't be intimidated by names and words ... We are all born the same ... Differently ... but with purpose...

fighting leads to bloodshed and we as humans know how it starts... If you don't have someone who cared for you , loved you or raised you in your memories, what stops you from becoming someone cruel...

There Is a God and proof seekers find nothing and demand that If there is a all powerful God that he must reveal himself to them or give them a sign... and if not that they will stop believing... I can only say that there are grater powers in this world, good and bad... but that believing in God is not a sin or a bad thing...

If you can find something to believe in that you know is right, why question how it works or demand things... You will find the truth
