You should never leave a minute wasted between you and your father. Even if something major happened in the past that affected your relationship. People do change. He's not going to be alive forever, so cherish what you've got and rebuild broken relationships.

Would it be harmful to you in some way to talk to him? Was he abusive in some way and is still a danger to be around?

Conversely, can you see yourself being able to accept and live with the fact that you have never made things right between you should he die?

I've never even met mine, and I'm 50 years old. There's alot I've missed over my life, and alot I'd like to know. Life's too short to waste time on holding grudges. Talk to him.

Well, if your asking yourself the question, maybe you should contact your father. Even if it's for closure. At least you'll have peace of mind. You'll have at least tried.

that all depends on why you havnt talked for that long. if he murdered your family then no, you shouldnt. but if it was an argument or something, surely you have grown up enough to forgive him. family is important.

only if he was a good parent. If he was a jerk previous - no need unless you feel the need to see him or really honestly miss him. Otherwsie you are opening pandora's box... i did - i regret it.. :(
