they gave it to me---and BOY did i have a bad reaction! I was at a store looking at the bottom row of stuff and squatted down--I got VERY dizzy and thought i was gonna pass out for sure.....told DR. and i guess i'm in the 2 percentile that has bad reactions to that stuff. So i got some Celextra and was very happy with that. All medications affect people differently--be honest in how your feeling and stay with it because with anxiety meds it hard to know if they are working well at first. BEST OF LUCK!!
ps I have been off my meds for 4+ years and doing well!

I was prescribed Wellbutrin a year ago for mild depression (Wellbutrin is not for anxiety). It seemed to help a little with the depression, but after a few months I decided to wean myself from it because it didn't make a dramatic difference. And during the quitting process, I suffered a very disturbing withdrawal symptom - emotional and physical violence. It lasted a few months.

From my personal experience and subsequent reading, all antidepressants can be dangerous. While some people may not have serious side effects while taking them and may befenit from them, many people experience very negative withdrawal symptoms when they start the quitting process. That's why it's best to avoid antidepressants unless there is absolutely no other choice (you or someone else's life is in danger, or other types of therapy haven't worked well enough).

I've seen it have good results for people with depression. Anxiety I have worked with less clinically so I couldn't say--your psychiatrist will know better. Wellbutrin, particularly in XL, has considerably fewer side-effects for many people than a number of other anti-depressants. Good luck, and be strong--you can definitely make it!

I took wellbutrin and zoloft at the same time and it seemed to make matters worse, so i came off the zoloft and just took wellbutrin, it helped although practically destroyed my libido, but it alone will not help depression, you also have to do some self growth too, I didnt come completely out of depression until I found the job I love and I began bringing my life back together. Really work hard on turning your life around and do it with energy...dont just let the medicines work your problems out, because they wont!!!

As a cognitive behavioral therapist, I feel that medication, while it takes the edge off of our negative emotions, does little to change the cause and the cognitions that can be changed. With CBT, depression and anxiety can be assuaged with exposure and new learning on how to cope. And once the meds are stopped, the symptoms return.

I had excellent results with Wellbutrin when I took it for a short period of time when my life turned upside down. The only thing that chapped my hide was that it caused me to gain weight - which fell off when I stopped taking it.

I've been on Wellbutrin XL for several years for OCD. I've had no bad reaction and ,in fact, it is one of the few antidepressants that does not cause sexual problems (low libido). I can't say it has really help my OCD though. I'd say give it a try.

Research shows medications are a trial and error and finding the right one can sometimes be difficult. I felt this did not work well for me when I had depression. But it did have the positive effect of quitting smoking. And it did not effect the libido.

Welbutrin can be a good med with certain people. It should be prescribed by a psyciatrist. A general M.D. does not nessacrly
know what they are doing. If it is making you suicidel it is because you are Bi-Polar and it does'nt matter what anti-depressant you take it WILL make you suicidel. Please go to the right professional.
