any 1 got any reccomendations on books n tapes i can use to learn the launguage? im staying there for a year

The best way to learn is in a classroom because (a) you get feedback and correction, and (b) it's harder to be lazy and procrastinate.

If you want to save money and study on your own, there are lots of free resources that are just as good as commercial products. Start with "The Quick and Dirty Guide to Japanese" by Tad Perry and the other links.

There are many more free resources. If you're not motivated enough to search for them by yourself, then chances are you wouldn't motivated enough to use books or CDs if you bought them, and that's said without any sarcasm.

I've heard good things about the Pimsleur language programs. I think it's just for spoken, not written language though.

good luck. to me, it just seems like that language is full of sounds.

Tho mo lok tuk do.... all one syllable sounds!
