We are miles apart. His dad took him. He wants to come live with me and my husband, but it's a strain on us. He is unhappy where he is. His meds aren't working. His dad and his brother will be very upset with me if I encourage him to do anything other than stick it out where he is. My husband doesn't want him living with us anymore. He's 33 and was diagnosed at about 22.

be there for him without overwhelming him. stress and high expressed emotion can cause his symptoms to worsen. keep him involved in any decisions- remember he's an adult and needs to be independent and responsible for himself.
importantly, think about yourself and the effect this could have on your life, maybe moving closer to home without actually living with you could be an option.

You need to see a psychiatrist for your own benefit to deal with this stress. It will help you AND your husband, as well as your son. I suggest that you speak with your psychiatrist about resources available to your family! You must first be mentally healthy and stable before you can help anyone else. I'm certain the strain is incredible for you and I wish you the best.

Stay strong!! I know firsthand how difficult things are for you, just stand by your son and try to work with his doctor to find a med that works.

he needs to get on meds that work for him and some one needs to make sure he keeps taking them people with schizophrenia often stop taking meds when they start to feel better

every morning wake up and write on a peice of paper how grateful you are for a perfectly healthy and happy son. beleive it.
