Any brand of straighteners are good as long as it has ceramic plates because thats what makes your hair shiny. I use a brand called Hot Tools.

I have a HAI one and it is GREAT--it was about $120 and there are ones made by CHI that are also just as good and around the same price. I heard that Amazon has them for a little less. I know it seems a lot but don't buy cheapy ones cause they'll damage your hair. Besides, if you invest the $, you'll use it a lot anyway and it will be worth it.

well lets see...first make sure its ceramic. they dont dry your hair out or leave it damaged. some of them enhance the color of your hair. i would go to your local wal-mart/target/supermarket. if youve got thick hair i would go with a wider iron, if you have thin hair i would recommend a thinner iron. also you should get one where you can adjust the temerature. all hair is different and some need more heat than others to get straightened. the ceramic ones usually have the kind you can adjust...another great reason to get a ceramic one is because they heat up in less than a minute!

I know I'm a guy, so don't know what I'm talking about, but here goes:
I got a some as present for my g/f from her baby son. They have ceramic plates (as already mentioned in some answers) but also have a tempurature control (thermostat). She uses them often & really likes them. Got them for around UK£20, so I'm sure you'll find something similar in the US.
Good luck.

Make sure you have a professional ceramic straightener. It doesnt mostly matter what brand it is. All It matters is the type of straightener you use. =]
good luck!
