It depends on what kind of hair you have and what you look like, and the style you're going for. You may consider going a little below the shoulder, because above the shoulder can really easily look like girl hair. If there are any pictures of you (or someone that looks like you) somewhere online, that would be a big help.
Also, I happened to see other questions from you about the emo hair... one suggestion I have is to make it all one length instead of leaving that piece in front of your eye, but you can still spike it and mess it up like that, which would be pretty cool. I'm a big fan of long hair on guys though, so try that first :)

believe it or not, yet shorter hair will make your head seem waayy smaller, alongside along with your ears. My ears stick out as correct, and my head is wide, and that i ultimately were given a shorter haircut, and my hair is a pair of million inch in length. it is going to seem more effective advantageous as correct.
