Because they are ignorant. Catholics can be Christians. But there are some Catholics that believe going to church and following the rules is enough; it isn't. Catholics do hold religious relics in high esteem which can be construed as idolitry. But, by a large, people who say Catholics worship idols are ignorant of Catholicism and are probably ignorant of true Christianity as well.

I have heard that catholics pray to Mary and to other saints (I think this is where the statue comment comes into play). I am not sure this sends you to hell but, I do not believe praying to anyone by God/Jesus will help you.
The second thing I believe that is causing some conflict is the fact that catholics uses their priests for confession and they say four hailmarys or whatever and forgive your sins. But, isn't God the only one who can forgive sins? I am not saying confessing to a priest is wrong because telling our friends about a problem can help (sometimes) but it needs to be confessed to God.
The last thing I can think of is the balanced life concept that some not all catholics live by.. For some reason, I have heard that some catholics believe you can do a good deed to offset a bad deed. This seems too much like they are saying I can get into heaven through my own works. You get to heaven through Jesus Christ, you confess, you repent, you get saved by his grace.
Again, none of these three apply to all catholics. But it is something I have noticed even in the bible belt. You just have to study the word yourself and decide what you believe and see if your church is teaching truth or not. If not, find out why and decide what to do about it. If you have a good pastor/priest, they will take the time to talk with you.

Well, the bible does say not to worship false gods. When catholics worship statues, this is worshiping a false god.
As for hell. It does not exist. Hell was created by a man many years ago when he wrote a book describing heaven, and hell. The book became reality.
When we die, we go to the gates of heaven. There is a book called the book of life. If your name is in the book, you enter heaven. If your name is not, you are carried by angels and thrown into the lake of fire where your soul is killed. You will see Jimmy Hoffa down there as you are going down...
Going to heaven is not based on how much money you give the church. People like the catholic church made up that lie. And you do not go to heaven by going door to door. Like the Jehova's Witnesses. The bible also says "Go NOT door-to-door."

Pope of old had the scripture changed to keep people like you going to church on Sunday .Jesus didn't resurrect Sunday morning . Jesus went into the tomb at sunset 72 hours later would be sundown again other wise 3 days 3 nights Math 12- 40-42 chief of the first fruits was waved just after sundown after a Saturday sabbath exactly 7 Sabbaths from Pentecost ,Pentecost was just after the seventh sabbath , which was change to Sunday morning also. now the Question is what is G-D going to do about it . you judge it.

The arguments that people use to say that Catholics are going to hell have to do with their assumption that if a person doesn't' share their theology then somehow they are worshiping a "different" Jesus or that they are "trusting in their works" to save them instead of the finished work of Christ on the cross.
What these people fail to realize is that while they may have valid Biblical criticisms of Catholic theology and practices, God saves whom He will and every born again Catholic is on their way to Heaven just like every Protestant who attends church and agrees with the critics theology but who has not been regenerated by the Holy Spirit is on the path that leads to hell.
Jesus answered him, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God."
Nicodemus said to him, "How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born?" Jesus answered,
"Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not marvel that I said to you, 'You must be born again.' The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit." John 3:3-8
Romans 8:9 You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God dwells in you. Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him.

Lack of information, mostily. I don't worry about it. There will always be those who will close their eyes to the Truth and follow the path of least resistance. You heard of it, the wide road. We can only pray for them.
I know what worship is. I don't confuse fellowship for worship. And I know I don't worship anyone or anything except the One True God in Three Divine Persons.
I know that my Celestial Family is complete with my Heavenly Father, my Brother Jesus and our Mother Mary. I know I have friends in Heaven, those before me who lived and died in God's friendship. You know, the ones we Catholics call Saints.
What do I care what others say in ignorance?
Keep the Faith.

Because they say prayers to Mary and to "saints". The Bible says there is only one way to the Father and that is through Jesus Christ. It says nothing about praying to Mary.
And from watching catholics genuflect before statues of mary or crucifixes, one says that they worship these things.
there is nothing made by the hands of man which can get you to the Father. Only Jesus can do that. So saying the Rosary or kissing a crucifix doesn't get you there. If you have put your belief in these things or in the Pope to save you, then you are lost.

They say Catholics are wrong because some of the things they believe and do go against what the Bible says.
However to say they are all going to hell no matter what is wrong because God is the one making those decisions, not people.

Unfortunately there are many myths out there about us Catholics. For some reason no matter what you try and explain many will not listen or accept the truth. Rest assured that we know and in the end we will all know.
Peace Be With You,

The Catholic Church adds rules and rituals to Jesus' atoning sacrifice that one must follow to be saved. Jesus did all the work for saving us on the cross, he paid our sin debt in full. To say, as the Catholic Church does, that we have to do something in addition to Jesus' work is blasphemous.
