both!!! Becoming a Christian happens when you accept Jesus and you personal savior, but is also the ongoing process of becoming a better person, becoming the person that Jesus whats you to become. other wise your just a sinner saved by grace.

A Christian is one who is a follower of Christ. At the moment you first believe that Jesus died on the cross to pay for your sins and then rose again after conquering death and sat down at the right hand of God the father, it is then that you belong to him and he sends his spirit to live within you, releasing you from the bondage of sin. The ongoing process is the time that you read his word to see what he has to tell you and pray to him to let him know how you feel thus building a relationship that gets stronger and stronger. In John 3:16 the key word is "believe". It is faith that saves you by his grace and not by works. Ephesians 2:8-2:9

Actually getting "saved" is a specific point in time. Cultivating that relationship with God is an ongoing process, so I guess the answer is a little bit of both.

Becoming a christian is like being born. It happens all at once John 1:12. Being close to Christ, maturing in your faith is ongoing.. Just like an infant human baby growing up. A christian is born as an infant christian. No one starts as a full grown person it take years of growing, learning, and experiences to become an adult...Jim

Becoming a Christian is not a process, it is a decision to ask Jesus into your heart and for him to forgive you and for you to know he is true.
Becoming a better Christian and a more spiritual Christian and to grow in your walk with God - yes, that is a process that is ongoing.

There are some people who say they know the exact day they were "born again". I can't pinpoint such a day. Since I was a child, I believed in God, and I believed that Jesus was His son, but it wasn't until I was in my 40's that I began studying the bible. In was in the years following those studies that I would say I became what's known as "born again".
I think once you are saved, you are saved. It's not like salvation is a "process". But I do believe that is only the beginning of our Christian walk, and we are being worked on by God daily, for the rest of our lives.

I think it is an ongoing process. We accept salvation at some point in time and we have to keep working to avoid temptation and stay in communication with God. When we are young, so many things in the world tend to distract us. As I get older it seems that my faith grows stronger. When you are older, you have seen more of the world, it's pitfalls, and you have a clearer sense of right and wrong. Just my thoughts...

Being born of God spiritually happens in a moment of heart faith. Once you are born of God, you are a Christian. This is when one receives the gift of ever lasting life.
Every Christian is in a different place in their Christian walk. Some are babies. Some are children. Some are maturing. Etc.
Some are stuck in unforgiveness towards someone or in some oppression or is being disciplined. When they start submitting to God, claiming His promises then they have victory & mature in faith. It is an ongoing process.
Basically, people get born spiritually and mature or not in Christ.
