A lot of it has to do with the quality of care the cat has received over the years. We had a cat that came to our clinic that lived to be 25 years old. Others don't make it past a few weeks when they live feral. I would say the average for an indoor cat is 16 years. An outdoor cat 10 years. Good luck.

Part of it depends on whether your cat is an indoor cat or outdoor cat. If they mostly live outdoors, then 7 years I believe is more the average. Sickness, fights, cars, all sorts of unknowns.

For an indoor cat, upper end tends to be about 20 years. I've had cats live into the 15-18 year range. They also get health problems just like senior people do.

A cat's average life span is 13-16 years, but I have had a cat live to be 23!!!! It really depends on the breed type and whether or not it is an outside or inside cat. If it is an inside cat, it depends on the diet you feed them. Cats that are older than 9 should have mostly a dry diet. Can food can harm their kidneys in the long run.

Indoor cats can live 14 - 20 years wirh good geriatric vet care and if they are spayed and neutered. Neutured male cats will not develop testicular cancer and spayed females are spared ovarian cancer. It will also reduce the risk of mammary cancer for both sexes. Some indoor cats live well into their 20's and there have been a few celebrated ones that have lived into their 30's (I think the oldest on record is 36). For outdoors cats, it's much less due to risk factors from fights, vehicles, dogs, disease. Maybe 10?

I had a cat that lived to be 22. I have heard of cats living into their 30's. Its kinda like people. It depends on their genetics and lifestyle. Any cat over the age of 10 is geriatric.

The average life expectancy of a cat is 15-20 years although some live well into their 20s. Not long enough if you want my opinion.

I think if your outdoor cat lives to be ten you are lucky! A cousin's nine year old cat was killed by a car. The cat had crossed that street all her life.

I have a 22 yr old cat who is the wonder and darling of her vet's and their assistants' professional life. She is beautiful, feisty, opinionated and a sweet old dear. Pretty crippled with arthritis and still plugging on to come to get her food, to go to her many water bowls around here, to seek out the morning sun to bask in and lie on a shaded deck on a hot afternoon.

My mother currently has an eighteen year old cat that is still quite active. Don't know what most cats live to be, but 18+ is surely possible.
