If you are going brand new, forget about the 4-runner, the ergonomics suck. The FJ's are cool but I can't get over the white top.....BLAHH! What about the Toyota Tacoma pre-runner crew cab TRD package. It still has the room inside for all your bros, (or chick friends) and the bonus of having the bed to haul all you want whenever you want, and the ones with the hood scoop look pretty sick! But then you could be a soccer mom type and get the Hummer H2.
If it was me it would be the Toyota pre-runner TRD or the FJ and get the top painted to match the bottom.
Good luck!

Why SUV?
You may have seen the Tesla electric sportscar http://www.teslamotors.com
*
You may have even seen the T-Zero electric sports car
http://www.acpropulsion.com/ACP_FAQs/FAQ_cars.htm
*
These two cars show that it is now possible to build electric cars that can out-accelerate a
Ferrari, and go 250 - 350 miles on a single charge. But both these cars are very expensive.
*
So who else is working on electric cars?
*
Would you believe China? They have to work on EVs. There won't be enough oil to support
China's future economic growth.
*
I drive an old electric vehicle. I also have friends with electric vehicles. Some of them
have recently been able to buy some amazing, cutting-edge EV batteries from China - example:
*
http://www.everspring.net/product-battery.htm
*
These batteries are better, and cheaper than the ones in those $100,000+ sportscars above.
If you look at the chart, you'll see they are as cheap as lead-acid batteries, and they hold
up for 1100 charges, twice as many charges as the other LI-Ion batteries on the chart.
*
Now, look at this car:
*
http://www.milesautomotive.com/products_xs200.html
*
It's a Chinese electric car, which will be imported into the USA next year. The driving
range is almost as good as those sports cars above. But it only costs $28500. And that price
could get a lot cheaper.

Personally why would you need an SUV? The way you put it you seem like a single Cali girl that doesn't need more than a 5 passenger vehicle. Suggestions: Ford Escape, Ford Escape Hybrid, Ford Freestyle, Ford Explorer, Ford Expedition, Lincoln Navigator, Mercury Mariner, Mercury Mariner Hybrid, Mercury Mountaineer, Mazda Tribute, Mazda CX-7, Volvo XC90, Land Rover LR3, Land Rover Range Rover Sport, Land Rover Range Rover.

What about Toyota RAV4? - it's most economical SUV excluding hybrids and also very reliable one. It's a perfect SUV for a girl and won't pollute as much as Chevy or Jeep.

Get the one that appeals most to you. After all, you are the one that has to drive it and look at it.
