I'm Hindu, but it seems like if I indicate that I'm not a Christian, people just automatically assume that I am not religious, and do not believe in God. I am just wondering if that is a common assumption.

I personally don't. But that is because I have friends who are hindu, christian, muslim and sikh and I live in a very multicultural society.

Many people simply don't have the opportunity to meet others of different faiths, and since this is a US based website christians and atheists are massively overrepresented. I think that's the cause of the assumptions.

I don't think so, but it may depend on where people are from. In some parts of the US where practically everyone is a Christian and there are few immigrants for people to become familiar with, they might assume what you say. Here in the San Francisco bay area, there are so many religions and creeds that I don't think any sensible person would assume that a non-Christian is not religious. But I think there is a huge distinction between being spiritual and being religious.

The people you were dealing with were probably ignorant. I wouldn't let it bother you. I am christian but when I hear that someone isn't it just means that christianity is their religion of choice. Nothing big or bad about it. As far as I know we have the right to believe in whatever you want. And if christianity isn't your choice then so be it ya know? Hope this helps. Peace

Actually, I tend to assume that people claiming Christianity are just Christian by culture, and not religious. I like being proven wrong, though, as long as the person isn't one to start witnessing to me.

No, but I've noticed that most here who say they are not Christian are not religious. This is the first posting I've seen from a Hindu, however. That is a fresh change-of-pace.

I am a Muslim - I believe true religions are three - Judaism, Christianity and Islam - They all believe in ONE god. As far as I know Hindus believe on many GODS. Thus, I assume you are an Atheist until you convert to one of those mentioned religions, especially ISLAM because it is the latest of the three and I believe it is the most correct one (my belief!!!!!!).

I worked closely with many people from various religions - will I treat you differently - NO I WON'T - I will let GOD decide your fate. It is your duty to choose the right religion - so belief. I hope you select the right one before your death so that you can be saved from the HELL FIRE.

A christian is someone who has accepted Jesus as their savior and is born again by the blood that Jesus shed for or sins on the cross. If you do not accept Jesus as your savior, you are not a Christian. There are all kinds of different religions out there, but in order to become a Christian you must accept Jesus as your savior and be born again.

John 3:3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

John 3:36 He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.

No all religions abide by God's rules but of their own doctrines that are not of God. So if someone says that they are not a Christian, then they are following a different God which goes against God's laws.

Exodus 20:3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

Exodus 23:13 And in all things that I have said unto you be circumspect: and make no mention of the name of other gods, neither let it be heard out of thy mouth.

Judges 10:13 Yet ye have forsaken me, and served other gods: wherefore I will deliver you no mor

I wouldnt make that assumption.

Being a Hindu does not guarantee that you believe in God (the One True God). No offense meant.

Some Hindus are polytheists.
Some Hindus are pantheists.
Some Hindus are self-theists.

Cordially,
John
