I was flying home from Ohio last week, and we hit some pretty rough turbulance. The lady sitting next to me said "Oh jeeze -- one accident's enough for me." I didn't really get what she meant. So I have been wondering: is it common or something to have been in an airplane accident.

Not necessarily an accident, but my husband and I were flying home from our honeymoon, and the plane was a DC8 (which they don't use anymore for passengers). One of the engines failed about 1/2 hour into the flight. A DC8 only has 2 engines. We had to turn around, fly back to the Miami airport and had an emergency landing. I didn't get scared until we were told to assume a crash position on landing, and when we got on the ground I saw all the rescue equipment following the plane down the runway. THAT'S when I got scared. The landing was fine, w/o incident, everyone de-planed and I believe we took a flight the next morning.

No. But I know 3 people who have died in commercial plane accidents. One guy on a Singapore airline that crashed in Taiwan. Another couple on an Alaskan airline flight years ago. Everytime I hit heavy turbulance, I think for a second, maybe this is it. No it's not common to be in an airplane accident, but knowing people who have died in one, just reminds us that it does happen.

No, but turbulence is part of flying and should not be termed an accident. If you are seated and belted when not moving in the aircraft, you will be fine even if the plane hits any turbulence. It is those who don't that will get injured.

More like car-seat belt rule. When in car, belt up. Same as in plane.

Almost...I was flying Horizon Air (LAX-RNO) in this real small airplane. I needed to go to the bathroom...you know I had been drinking some cheap wine served during the flight. Well, the thing is that I was trying to open the bathroom door, but it was kind of hard when I realized that was the Exit door.
Wow! I almost got us killed. I was sober in a second.
The message of my story: sometimes we are responsible for all these kinds of miscarriages.

No, but one time I was flying from Portland, Oregon to Las Vegas, Nevada and there was a storm. The pilot wasted an hour flying around the storm instead of going through it. That was weak.

Never. But I was once on a plane, when it had so much electrical trouble, it had to be delayed. It got to Seattle, late.

Yeah, I was killed in a crash 5 years ago and it was terrible. My life passed in front of me. That part was pretty exciting--I hit replay twice. Seriously, best to avoid plane crashes. They are not pretty and the thrill and excitement all of a sudden go blank and you die not knowing if you survived or not.

prob. not.. if they've been in an airplane accident.. most of the time they'd be dead unless they didn't get off the ground..
