I think the best dog is one that needs a home. Consider things like the amount of exercise you can give your dog, the size of your home and yard, etc.

It is a big decision. Your dog will be around for around 15 years.
Good luck!

A breed of dog is a very subjective thing. You have to consider several factors before you decide on a specific breed, as each has their own set of personality traits and requirements.

For instance, are you home a lot? If not, you might not want to get a dog that requires a lot of person-to-dog interaction; or a dog that requires a lot of exercise (because you won't be home to walk it).

Do you want a short haired or long haired breed? Even short haired dogs shed, but they don't require as extensive brushing as a long haired breed. If you don't want to spend a good deal of time grooming your pet, you wouldn't want a dog that is high maintenance in appearance.

Big dog or little dog? Its natural to assume that bigger dogs eat a lot more than little dogs. Therefore, if you get a big dog, you're going to be spending a lot more $ on food every month. Also, how do you feel about having a 200 lbs. English Mastiff sharing your bed with you every night - snoring, slobbering, etc. - as opposed to a 10 lbs Jack Russell.

A good website to go to in order to explore all the registered dog breeds is: www.akc.org.

It depends on a few things: compatability, how well they are around children and other animals, size, even how active you are. It can also depend on how much a breed of dog costs, some can cost more than others.

Depends on many factors, such as your work/school schedule, your patience and tolerance level and your sincere love of dogs. Having a dog is similar to having a two year old, so commitment is essential! I have a beagle and two terriers. (night and day!) The beagle is very laid back. (loves to eat-any time!) The jack russell
terrier is much more high-strung and in need of lots of attention. (smart as a whip!

What do you mean by "take"? Type of dog depends on a lot of different circumstances. You need to let us know your living arrangements, how often you can exercise the dog, etc.

I would get a weimaraner. They have short hair, so they won't shed and leave hair all over the place, they are GREAT pets and full of energy, and if you like to hunt, their the perfect dog for that!

And they're extremely nice, you should totally get one!
