I just be my regular nice self. They can be hateful all they want, but, in truth they can never say the same of me. I am kind and helpful and others see this. They just let people see the real person they are.

I would very calmly go to her and say "You may trash me all you want, but you will not trash the children nor trash me in front of them. If you can not behave like an adult, then you will have to suffer the consequences, and have limited time with your grandchildren. Let us all behave like adults for the children."

I would tell your mother in law if she has nothing nice to say then dont say anything at all. I would just let her know she isn't going to treat you or anyone like that. If she doesn't like it then she can just stay away.

Just stay away from her. And make it a point to not include her in family functions. Eventually she will wonder why, or even if she doesnt , you are not going to have to listen to it anymore.
Saying something to her is not going to help, I dont think. She just seems the kind to use it against you.

This is your husband's job. He should tell her that it is no longer allowed. If she refuses to comply DO NOT visit her or let the kids visit her until she comes to you with a promise to change her ways.

Then your HUSBAND should make her stick to it.
