They're for idiots.
That's the overriding similarity.

There are some similarities between the Qur'an and the Bible; some of the old Testament passages seem to be referring to similar events, but the outcomes and interpretations are different.
Obviously there is some appeal and reference to the supernatural and the mystical because this is a part of what Christianity and Islam is about.
However, many of the passages in the Old Testament of the Bible are referring to actual historic events , and there is evidence to prove some of these accounts
In my opinion, rational thought can live alongside with supernatural beliefs and mysticism - who says they can't?
Based on your question, it seems to me that you are talking about the Bible and the Qur'an, but haven't actually read either of them.
Why not read them both, then you may be able to answer your own question?
Hope this helps and God Bless you:>)
P.S. I am a Christian, but have read a little of the Qur'an, too, although it was a long time ago.
It does sound as though you are searching for something more in your life - so why not give the Bible a try and see what you think?

The Old Testament is basically the Jewish Bible. The Christians believe that plus the New Testament. The Quran is also based on the Old Testament, but includes knowledge of the New Testament and is the Witness of Mahomet.
These share a common basis and therefore have similarities. They are also dissimilar. The Old Testament is a mixture of Myth, History, Poetry and Prophecy. The New Testament has Biography, Religious Dialogue, Parables, Miraculous events and prophecy. It refers often to the Old Testament. The Quran has a very different tone and is the work of one person. It is a Revelation of the Prophet.
Other Religions have their Holy Books. Some are very different to the Bible/Quran. The Rigveda is a collection of hymns. The Bhagavad Gita, is a philosophical discussion between God and Man on the eve of a battle. The teachings of Confucius are generally given in short, pithy sayings. The teachings of Mencius are often in the form of question and response. The Diamond Sutra is supposed to contain the words of Buddha himself.
Some religions require the suspension of rational thought. They are Faith Based, or they may require states of rapture or possession. Others are more rational. Of course to believe in any specific philosophy or doctrine must include some degree of abnegation of self.

Judaism is the parent religion of Christianity (Christianity comes from Judaism). The Torah contains 5 books: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers & Deuteronomy.
Jews follow the beliefs focusing around the Moses 10 commandments, Solomon of the Ark era. They mainly follow the teachings of Prophet Moses (Moses was a prophet)
These are the first 5 books of the Old testemant, 1 of the 2 testemants to the bible for the Christians. Christians Focus on the teachings of Jesus Christ (Jesua Bar Josef of Jesus, son of Josef), and the christ bit relates to the Trinity, the Father son and Holy spirit. Christianity. Therefore Jesus is believed to be the son of God. Although it starts with the same 5 books, the interpretation is different.
Christianity has split into many fractions:
Catholicism follows the Catholic church in Rome, and sticks to the old beleifs.
Prosestantism, founded by Martin Luther was to reform the Moral and theological beleifs of the Catholic church.
Then there is Islam. Muslims follow the belief that Allah spoke to the Prophet Mohammed, and told him to tell people to stop worship of many gods as there is but one God Allah.
The Islam holy book, the Qua'ran is a collection of messages which have been told to Mohammed from Allah (Allah's message is revealed). It is the interpretation of the word that differs between the 2 fractions of Islam (Sunni and Shi'ah)
The Bahai is an offshoot from Shi'ite Branch in Islam considers the idea of unity and acceptance.
Buddhism focuses on Enlightenment and righteousness, and the scriptures focus on knowledge and doing what is right.
Of these monotheistic Religions, the main concept is the interpretations. The books are very similar and do cross over a lot, it is the interpretation or what focus the religion encourages.

They rely on total suspension of free thought and logic. Also the bending of proven facts to suit there own purposes. The fact is that every single major war has had some route in religion. The world would be a far safer place if people trusted themselves rather than some mystical supposed person from some book written many years after the events.

Isn't it amazing how many people make a charge of suspension of thought, when they haven't done any research to find out what's true and not true? Of Christianity at least, I know that study is required! And life experiences are generally the reason people start considering religion in the first place. Christians aren't looking for a bunch of rules when they start looking for answers about life and morality, but the lifestyle that blesses people is usually explained to others who are seeking understanding in such terms. What we are seeking is a way to better ourselves after we come to a saving knowledge of Christ.
There are plenty of people who claim Christianity because there are fringe benefits to the lifestyle, like a good reputation among employers and business people. This reputation is being sullied by people who use the name of Christian without committing to the work of Christianity, including study.

You could probably find at least a few similarities between all religions, that doesn't make them all true.
For example, chair and a baseball bat are both made of wood, that doesn't mean they're both made for sitting on. That is one of the oldest tricks in the book, manipulate the truth just slightly and you've changed it to a lie.

You should know this by now. The Christianity, Judaism and Islam all belong to the same concept, the concept of old testaments.
