Boil On My Arm

The fancy name for it is called an Abscess. Its kind of like a giant pimple, usually caused by a small break in the skin or a clogged pore or follicle. Basically its a localized infection. In certain cases it has to be anesthetized (numbed) and have a small incision made to drain out the infectious fluid. In other cases simple antibiotics like a cephalsporin for about a week will help stop the infection and the body will heal it on its own. I don't know of any backwoods home type recipes that would cure the abscess, but they are entertaining to read. Its not an emergent situation, but I would go and see your family doctor tomorrow and get started on those antibiotics. If you have any other questions, feel free to email me.

Do not squeeze any boil! You have to bring it to a head with heat. It is best to use moist heat, like a hot, wet pack for 15 minutes at a time, several times a day. Be very careful not to burn yourself. If it is under your arm, you may want to see a doctor. if you have a lot of boils, you need an antibiotic. It could be a staph infection & that is contagious.
If it does not open & drain, the doctor will have to do it. How did you get the boil?

If it's a deep boil, you need to bring the infected area to the surface by drawing out the moisture in the surrounding tissue. The usual way of doing this is by applying magnesium sulphate paste, which can be bought over the counter at any pharmacy. Apply the paste, cover the boil with a clean dressing, and after a while you'll be able to deal with it as with any other spot.

I feel your pain. I get boils too. Keep it clean cover it with a bandaid. If you can get to the Doctor, do that. If not, do not keep squeezing it. That will just cause more swelling and pain. Sometimes they come to a head on their own. There really isn't any one sure fire cure. It just gets to be trial and error. A boil is a skin infection, so if you have any type of antibacterial cream you can put on it that might be a start.
Good luck. Boils are horrible!

If you have a boil it wont respond to potato or socks, you need to get some antibiotics to clear it, make an appointment with your Doctor.

What ever you do , do not pop it ! If it pops on its own when your sleeping, there's nothing you can do. Put hot compresses on it (run hot water on washcloth, set on boil, repeat) if it does pop don't squeeze, pour hydrogen-peroxide over it. Do not put band aid over it either, needs air.
