I have a 5 month old pug and he goes up to 9 hours without peeing when I am at work. And we have no problems. But if your dog is younger you might want it to only be about 4-5 hours at a time as the bladder is smaller. Also do not give food and water in crate and try to limit the intake about 40 minutes before they go in the crate for the day. And make sure that they do to the bathroom before going in.

If it's just a puppy, they need to empty their bladder every few hours. The older the dog, the longer they can stay alone. When caged, they will wait as long as possible before peeing in their area - it's a den thing.

pends on the size of the cage. I know that for potty training purposes the cage should be only slightly bigger then the dog just enough so the dog can turn around in it.
If it is this big, the dog will try its best not to go to the bathroom, that way the dog doesnt have to lie in it afterwords...

the younger the dog the less time as the dog gets old he can stay in longer. Puppies have small bladder and can not hold it for long times

when I was babysitting for this family, the mom walked the Golden Retriever puppy at around 9:00am and when she returned at around 5:00pm the dog hadn't peed in her crate. The mom told me not to take the puppy out, so even when I saw that the puppy had to pee and was whining, I couldn't do anything.

Your puppy should always have available fresh water to drink. Leaving one of your shirts or another article of clothing will give the puppy comfort from your smell. Leaving on the radio or TV will sometimes help to comfort the puppy. Animal planet is a good channel to leave it on. :) That's what I do for my dog.

Every dog is different so you will have to let your dog tell you how long he can hold it.
