Have you noticed that those with mental impairment have faces that are basic as well?

Well it's about expression, and focus.

You tend to repeat whatever you were doing at the time that you had a thought. This amplifies throughout childhood as language. That is all facets of human language. Facial expression, voice tonality and anunciation, body language.

What you see is body language. Common among those with mental difficiencies is a single extreme using body language. For example a manic response which you have noticed is single hand manipulation. Putting they're fingeres in the air is a way to break reality in their minds and as they wiggle their fingers they are able to focus their thoughts.

If you have ever seen a mentally impaired person in a stressful situation you will see the hyper manic response. Where they will stick one hand in the air, and stare at the ground just behind them. They may do this looking at their chest or to either side of their body.

If you have ever heard of the studies done on liars or terrorists where certain thoughts or characteristics are taken from a single picture than you may understand. Eye accessing cues are among the same findings.

I don't know why, but I have seen it done. Sometimes it's just a raised hand with 3 fingers together like they're having a conversation and are emphasizing something with their hand. Maybe that's it, they are communicating something in their mind, talking with their hands but not saying anything outloud.
