You are probably not letting him out frequently enough, and when he's out, probably not for enough time. Dogs naturally don't want to soil their living quarters if in a dog crate. He is probably in there for too long and cannot hold it any longer.

He may also be so excited to get out that he can't control it and goes. Also, a puppy has to be a certain age before he can 'hold' it for more than a very short time at all...before that their bladders aren't developed enough...like a human infant.

Take him to your vet and have a urine culture done to make sure he doesn't have a urinary tract infection, as this could be a physical cause for it. Ask your vet this same question and also ask what the best way is to house train him is.

Also, if you don't thoroughly clean the cage, he will 'go' where he smells it has been previously.

The creat is to large for the dog. dogs are clean animals and if they can go in the cage in the corner and get away from it they will. The cage should only be big enohgh for the dog to stand up turn around and lie down

I have a Basset Hound and she used to do the same thing.I would put her in her crate, and she would pee in it.And it is just big enough for her to stand up and turn around, and lay down. She would pea and then sleep in it.She didn't care.I was giving her a flat sheet to sleep with. Now I put pieces of old carpet down in the bottom of her cage, and she no longer pees in her crate.I don't know for sure if it will work for you,but you can try it if you want.Like I said it worked for me.

Who knows! Has your dog learned to use it outside in grass and not concrete? Well in anycase spray some odor remover in his cage to take his scent away. Also if you clean his cage with bleach or any kind of ammonia, to him it smells like pee and signifies a good place to go.
