How can I tell if my dog is going blind? any suggestions to test his vision?

If your dog stumbles into things he might have a vision problem. Place something in his path and see if he stumbles into it. I would sugget that you take your dog to the vet and see what he/she thinks.

Check for cloudiness in the eyes. To tested for blindness just take your hand and go to swat him, without hitting him...If he blinks he has sight...if no blink then he could be blind. But you might not know if it's both eyes.

They tend to use their sense of smell even more when they are going blind. With my moms dog we realized it when she would jump if we went to touch her from the back or the side.......she also cock her head more, as if trying to hone in on the sound instead of looking at you when you walked into the room. They tend to bump into things as well. Does the dog have a milky look in its eyes, cataracts are common on older dogs.

How you can tell if your dog is going bline is if its eyes start to turn kind of light blue or you can take them to the vet and they could help you out a lil bit.or to test his vision you can take little dog treats and throw them somewhere and see if he can get them.

You can drop a cotton ball or piece of tissue in front of each eye to see if they follow it with their eye or head. Use something that won't make a sound when it hits the floor because as their sight goes, other senses take over.
