Los Angeles as a whole, if you avoid the southern quarter of Chicago.

LA by far.
Ive never been to Chicago but I've been to LA many, many times and there are nice parts to it but as a whole, it is very dangerous.
I live and have lived in NYC all my life and I've been uptown, downtown, Bronx, Brooklyn, all over the place, even at night and I've always been safe.
And I'm guessing Chicago is not that bad because Oprah lives there.

Every major US city has its bad parts and good parts, it depends on where you want to go and what you want to see. If you go to south central L.A. or Harlem in the middle of the night, of course you are looking for troubles. However, if you stay in the tourist area, you should be fine. There are a lot of nice places in L.A. are very safe such as Newport Beach, Santa Monica, Disneys, Farmers Market, Beverly Hills .... etc.

It all depends on the section of town. I'd probably say Chicago, but I wouldn't want to spend the night on the sidewalk in any of those cities.

New York City I think, I was born in downtown Los Angeles and grew up in Bellflower, California. now I live in Georgia for six years and getting a devorce because wife says she doesnt know what she wants and I promised her to go with her since she said she would make me happy!!!!!! HAPPY MY ***, I miss Los Angeles, I'm lost in macon, georgia.
