Howdy y'all!

I just had a baby girl a few months ago. She's such a cute child. My boyfriend Carl and I decided to name her Penelope. She's 4 month's old as of last Tuesday. I don't breastfeed her, because I don't like NO ONE goin near my chachies. I've started feeding her Cheerios, but my mom says she's too young. I say my Mom should mind her own business; this is my child and I'm gonna raise her as I see fit. How can I get my mom out of my hair?

According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, 'once your baby sits up, you can give him finger foods to help him learn to feed himself. Make sure anything you give him is soft, easy to swallow, and breaks down into small pieces that can't possibly choke him.'

In addition, you should likely wait until you child is sitting up well without support and has the coordination to hold and bring foods to his mouth with a thumb-finger grasp, which is usually at about 7-9 or 10 months of age.

Good choices for you baby's first finger foods can include:

baby crackers
pieces of bread
plain wafer type cookies
dry cereals, like cheerios
cut and well cooked vegetable pieces, like green beans, potatoes, or peas
pieces of soft ripe fruits (bananas, etc.)
small pieces of cheese
cooked pasta
small pieces of well cooked meats
Even if you think your baby is ready for finger foods, be sure to always supervise your child when he is eating them in case he does choke.

You might start by refraining from calling your breasts, "chachies." You might have made a grown- up decision about breast feeding your baby. (Not all women CAN breast feed, but to refuse to do it for immature reasons is waaaaaaaay too selfish.) The point is, if you start act liking a mature mother, your mother will probably back off. However, babies should not be eating cheerios when they are 4 months old. If you're smart, you'll let your mother help you with this baby. If you can't stand your mom's help, let some other mature, experienced female help you. Not because you deserve it, but because your baby does.

Blessings to Penelope.

you sound very immature.

You need to do some research on child rearing, there are a lot of resources on the web and at the library regarding feeding stages for your child. A 4 month old does not have the teeth to chew a cheerio, and if she doesn't suck on it and swallows it hard, she could choke. She does need formula now if you aren't breastfeeding.

First of all, your mom raised you, so she has been there before. Secondly, you can tell her it is your child and you will make the decisions, but that you appreciate her concern and support.

The baby doesn't need teeth to eat cheerios--they are usually given about 6 months though, and are great for babies practicing the pincher-grasp movement. As for your mother, just ignore her. She will always have an opinion on what you do. In the future you may need her help or advice, so anything you do not agree with, just ignore. You probably do not want something like eating cheerios become you two. There are far more important things.

Well, you can do what you like because she is your child, but your mom is telling you right. Her digestive system is not strong enough for that just yet. Your going to cause another problem. When you decided to become a parent you gave away it's about me privileges. It's not about you and your chachies anymore it's about your lovely defenseless daughter. Think about her well being if nothing else. Better yet ask a Doctor.

Hi! I am a full time nanny and have been a nanny for 15 years. There is a new product by gerber that is for this age and they melt in the baby's mouth when they eat them so they can't choke. ( In the babyfood aisle-gerber puffs-banana,sweet potato flavors) Try these it may help your situation all around and as your child gains more teeth and can start to chew more then start feeding her cheerios. Good Luck!!!!

If you are able to use the internet, then you should be going to some websites where you can find out how to feed a baby.

This sounds like a total joke, I'm thinking nobody can be this stupid.

But, just in case, I'll tell you I feel very sorry for your Mom. She loves your baby and you won't even listen to her advice.

Get with it, and feed that child properly.

A 4 month old should not be given Cheerios. She has no teeth and she will choke. There are plenty of baby cereals on the market, go buy one of those.

That's funny. You said you don't want anyone going near your t*ts, but in your other question you say you let your 7 year old son play with them. If this is a legit. question you need to listen to your Mom. At 4 months babies should not be eating cheerios, only smooth pureed type foods. Dumbass.

Lisa, a week ago you said that you had an 8 month-old baby and now you say that you have a 4 month-old baby. I was going to answer you, but maybe you are just kidding, so I don't need to waste my time.
