The term "cult" is an insulting synonym for "religion". The term has no place in polite conversation, and Jehovah's Witnesses correctly consider it an insult.
Sadly, this so-called "question" seems intended mostly as insulting slander against Jehovah's Witnesses. Jesus himself quite plainly assigned the Christian congregation to perform an evangelizing work (Matt 28:19,20; Luke 10:1,2; et al).
One wonders if anti-Witnesses understand that Jehovah's Witnesses are proven to be true Christians, based upon the Witnesses' preaching work and the anti-Witnesses' bigoted hatred against them.
(2 Timothy 4:3-5) For there will be a period of time when they will not put up with the healthful teaching, but, in accord with their own desires, they will accumulate teachers for themselves to have their ears tickled; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, whereas they will be turned aside to false stories. You, though, keep your senses in all things, suffer evil, do the work of an evangelizer, fully accomplish your ministry.

As Jehovah's Witnesses we are accessible sharing an astonishing message with human beings of each race, faith, way of existence...and heritage! we are commonly used global for this and are considered everywhere! i encounter that to be the alternative of keeping apart ourselves! in truth, we boldly percentage our beliefs with every person who needs to study what God's applications are. what number faiths can say they have this way of braveness? we do not do this on our own power both, yet really have the backing of God's functional energetic stress, his HOLY SPIRIT! How else would men, women, & even toddlers be accessible sharing a existence-giving message, even with the ridicule we receive? And really than reason us to decelerate, our employer is growing! It obviously has God's backing!

Jehovah's witnesses would be considered a cult, yes. I don't even think they believe that Jesus is God. I'm not even sure if they believe in the crucifixion or the resurrection. I could be wrong though.
They are definitely a cult though. Although, that doesn't mean there's no hope. Many people are alligned with false religion and eventually God reveals himself to them. The Lord is more powerful than anything else. That's for sure. If he wants you he'll get you. You just have to be willing to accept.
"All who seek me, will find me" thus saith the Lord.

Although some publications call us a cult, we do not fit the definition of it. Usually cults follow the beliefs of one man, and are small in number. We number more than 6.5 million world wide, and people come to us to learn the truth.
Please check out our website, and judge for yourself. Don't rely on the opinions of the uneducated.

Despite the idiotic claims of the ignorant, if you look up the definition of "cult", and then go and get an accurate understanding of Jehovah's Witnesses and their beliefs from their official website (www.watchtower.org) and compare the two.....you'll find that only a dimwitted individual would still try and say that the Witnesses fit that definition. They clearly do not.

Christianity is so quick to call everyone else a Cult it's rediculious. Jeff Lindsay makes a funny point in his site http://www.jefflindsay.com/LDSFAQ/FQ_cult.shtml . And he even has a CDROM that labels any religion other than your own a Cult. Like the Cultmaster5000.
If you're asking Christians if Jehovas Witnesses, or any other religion is a Cult... they'll be MORE THAN EXCITED to jump to their answer "YES! AND THEY"RE GOING TO HELL!"
If you want a Logical answer... You won't get it from the Christian fanatics on Yahoo. Maybe ask your friend about his church, and weed through the lies and fabrications that the christian church has implimented in effort to make themselves more "Save-worthy".
Christianity lies to you. They Lie about Other religions more specificly. Christians are scared, and should be. After all... If religion is your profession, you should be scared of the competition. And since god tells you you're saved... EVERYONE ELSE IS DAMNED!!! AND ALL OTHER RELIGION IS A CULT!!!.
Silly Christian's, Trix are for kids.

Keep praying for your friend. JW's are very confused about the person of Jesus Christ and they teach very bizarre and strange interpretations of the bible. Remember, the prayer of a righteous person avails much. I pray God will lead your friend to the true Jesus Christ.

Yes they are and the reason I say this is because i was a member in the cult and believe me the elders are like police always spying on you. by the way i used the Internet to search them out and found out that they are also false prophets. they predicted that the final battle was going to take place in 1914 and it didn't. the book on cults list Jehovah's Witnesses as one of the most deadliest cults.
